People keep asking me if I'm pregnant and I'm not! I do however, have large thighs and a persistently round tummy. I have a few pairs of cheapo "control pants" and a couple of girdle/corset things bought from Hong Kong via eBay but the results are somewhat disappointing.
I was wondering if there really are magic pants that can make me look slim again, or whether there is no substitute for actually shifting some of the excess weight?

When I was looking for control wear for a special occasion I found debenhams had the best assortment with samples to try. I rate spans for smoothing over bumps and wobbly bits but I find they can make your tummy look more round as they smooth over where my tummy naturally goes in at the belly button

I own lots of clingy dresses and had some success with a waist cincher. That said, it is much easier to either dress your shape (for me, dropped waist 20s style dresses or draping work mich better) or lose weight by exercising and eating less. Shapewear feels sweaty and uncomfortable - I'd rather not wear it to a party if I want to enjoy the evening.

I need to learn how to wear dresses properly. Too many years in trousers and tunics!

Primark do good control pants, think they're £6.

I have some of those but they don't seem to work the miracles I need!

I've got a really good control slip from M&S, which you wear your own bra with. I'm reasonably slim but it just eradicates any lumps and bumps and makes me look far more streamlined.

Peacocks do these shorts that are excellent. They hit the waist and cover the top of the thigh and don't travel. I don't like the ones that come up to your bra as they roll down and feel sweaty so it's the smaller ones I mean.

They cost about £5. Buy your size not smaller or you get overspill.

Thank you - we do have a peacocks here so may have a look...
