I need wellies, I can stand wet feet no longer! Do you have Hunter or Joules? Or a wide fitting wellie?

I'm fed up of having soggy feet, I need wellies. I had planned to buy some for autumn but think I might as well buy them now.

I am a slim size 8 but have a freakishly wide calf and whenever I try cheapy wellies on in Asda or wherever they are always too tight on my leg so that they bunch down and my leg doesn't fit all the way in (does that make sense??)

I was thinking that a more expensive wellie like Joules or Hunter are probably better shaped so might fit better. If you have them, are they wide or narrow fitting on the leg?

I haven't had any luck with the wide calf wellies either because they make them wider at the ankle too, which just means I swim around in them at the ankle and can't keep them on.

I dont think I have wide calves BUT I am a size 16 so they must be large at least and my Hunters fit ok were a bit hard to get on and off to start with. They have lasted 3 years of being stuck in mud seaweed sand etc The other week I wore them to work everyday as the bottom of the lane was flooded - dry and toasty feet all the way. I have glossy violet (MIL chose I wanted a dark subtle purple). Saw some the other day in TKMAXX HTH

I am also size 8 with a sturdy calf (ensures I don't get blown over in a stiff wind). I have Hunter neoprene wellies which are warmer than their regular wellies and a slightly wider fit. I find that "wide fit" wellies are really unflattering and flap around my legs making them look even bigger. The Hunters are a snug but comfortable fit (I can fit ski socks and skinny jeans inside at a push).

I have tried Joules wellies on in a store and found them way too wide.

Are they more shaped and fitted than the cheaper wellies you can buy?

Oh I should also add that mine are about to go through their third winter and are used pretty much daily for field & woodland walks with the dog so definitely not just a fashion item.

Yep definitely better shape and fit than cheaper wellies. I wouldn't buy anything else now.

Second hunter neoprene
Do you need wellies or a country boot? Rydale have some lovely country boots that are wider

CMOTDibbler · 14/07/2012 23:13

Muck boots are ace - the top is neoprene, so they just stretch to fit your leg. V warm and comfy too.

I have big calves. Just bought some Ariat wellies. Love them!

Murtette · 14/07/2012 23:18

I'm glad this isn't just a problem for me. I am currently a size 16 (DS only 7 weeks old), wide of calf & my existing wellies have split and I cannot find a replacement pair. I need some!!

Bright - which rydale ones do you recommend?

brighthair · 14/07/2012 23:45

I have the Malham zip ones and they are loose on me - I can just get my legs in normal hunters but cut the circulation off!
They have a new biker Malham boot which looks interesting
I also have the Ariat Grasmere. Pricey but 3 years on still going strong and abused daily, plus feel like slippers

Try wellie warehouse I ordered a few from there that were ace but in the end I settled on wellibobs direct from joules. They are lovely and really nicely shaped on the feet

I have Hunter - they leak apparently that's not unusual. Have seen some lovely ankle Wellies I quite fancied -much cooler than the long ones, maybe less practical but certainly for someone with a wide calf, they would be a good solution.

For the first time in many years I have a pair of wellys that fit my fat calves. £12.50 from Tesco, and they are a pretty colour and pattern.

I have the Joules ankle wellies, I have same problem with long boots. I have a purple pair and love them. They are fleecy lined, really snuggly and easy to put on. I often wear them on the school run on a very wet day!
