Dandruff

Can anyone advise me how to get rid of it, please? I think I've tried every shampoo on the shelves and it does not budge. Or it does and then comes back. I'm fed up with scabby, grainy scalp. It does not shed, only if I scratch it. Just sits there and annoys me.

Much obliged.

Are you sure its dandruff and not psoriasis? I have that and have tried everything to get rid but now I just avoid black tops, always blowdry my hair and wash every other day.

It is a real PITA though, I feel for you :(

NoMoreMarbles · 13/07/2012 23:09

Wet your hair so it's damp but not soaking, use whatever brand of conditioner you usually buy and absolutely drench your hair, scalp first. Leave it on an hour and then wash thoroughly. No shampoo just conditioner. It works a treat. I do it once a week. Smile

Wash my hair every other day that should say...the rest of me gets washed atleast once a day :o

Whirliwig72 · 13/07/2012 23:13

Try a few drops of grapefruit seed extract with your shampoo (be very careful to avoid eyes). Should clean up your scalp a treat Smile

Grin wannabe. Haven't thought about psoriasis.

NoMoreMarbles, thanks! Bit too late now but it's on my list of things to do tomorrow.

It sounds like Psoriasis, my daughter has it and was given a special shampoo from the doctors.
The bottle i got was very tiny (our docs is shite) so ive now started using T-gel shampoo on her as it is so hard to get another appointment Angry

MrsBradleyCooper · 14/07/2012 08:59

T-Gel or nizoral shampoo have worked for me in the past.

Also heard that pouring a dissolved aspirin over your head helps. Grin

It is often worth looking at your general health as it is sometimes caused by stress or a diet problem / lack of water etc. I used to get it a lot when I ate bread and then it disappeared when I stopped.

(Come back now as I have been craving bread in this pregnancy...grrrr!)

Thank you all for advice. Very interesting points.

I have psoriasis. Somebody here recommended Nizoral. I don't know who it was, but I love them!

valiumredhead · 14/07/2012 14:16

L'Oreal Elvive anti dandruff shampoo - dark blue bottle with orange lid. The Body Shop's ginger shampoo is very good too.

bronze · 14/07/2012 14:19

I have psoriasis (especially around the hairline) and find its better the less I wash it
You have to get the oils used to it first though

Roseformeplease · 14/07/2012 14:25

Nizoral is an absolute wonder. Also, when using, it seems to help with my eczema. Don't know why. You can buy over the counter but do follow instructions.

My iPad wanted to correct Nizoral to Marjoram - wonder if that works as well?

Roseformeplease · 14/07/2012 14:26

Agreed wi above. On your non Nizoral days use the Body Shop Ginger Shampoo.

Roseformeplease · 14/07/2012 14:26

With.

pumpkinsweetie · 14/07/2012 14:46

Thanku valium, i will try that bodyshop ginger shampoo Smile

Kaloobear · 14/07/2012 15:50

I have scalp psoriasis and it's definitely worse when I'm stressed or when I over-wash my hair. I now only wash it two-three times per week and it's helped a lot. It's still there but it falls less.
