I fancy giving some of this stuff a go but I am clueless when it comes to cosmetics. Can someone give me a strict list of must have items (think complete beginner when it comes to makeup) :)

I've read the mineral primer is good. My sister likes the high definition powder and she has a lot of their make up, always looks fabulous, and raves to me about it. The brushes are also meant to be very good, especially considering the price.

I've just bought a metric tonne of their make-up because of the discount Blush.

If you're really a complete beginner and assuming you have nothing, I'd buy:

  1. mineral infused primer
  2. flawless foundation
  3. complexion perfection
  4. HD powder
  5. a cream blush
  6. kohl eyeliner
  7. any of their mascaras
  8. a cream eyeshadow
  9. their setting spray
10. maybe an eyebrow pencil if your eyebrows need defining 11. a brush set that has a foundation brush, a powder brush, and an eyeshadow brush in.

that'll probably cost you about £25 after the discount.

I have read the eyeshadows aren't that great, and not very pigmented, but I prefer a subtle look so hopefully the cream one I've bought should be ok.

thanks, I had a couple of those items in my basket so maybe I'm not completely useless with makeup Grin

I was thinking of trying some of the mineral set items, anyone got any views on the mineral makeup sets?

I picked up a couple of the mineral foundations in the states and have found them a bit clumpy compared with Bare Mineral/LilyLolo ones - but still OK. Definitely worth a punt at the prices they are at the moment!

BreakOutTheKaraoke · 12/07/2012 07:52

I just bought shedloads! I took a couple of your ideas, Porkypine, and went for the primer, HD powder-never heard of this before? I went for the yellow base one as I'm a bit redness prone at the minute. My list was massive! 16 items for 30.15 delivered.

I normally get a different type of mineral foundation, so I'll be interested to see whether this is any good- it's a lot cheaper than what I usually pay.

valiumredhead · 12/07/2012 08:32

OMG the stuff is SO cheap even before the discount!!!! Shock

How have I not heard of this brand before??

valiumredhead · 12/07/2012 08:53

Everything I wanted is out of stock Sad

CMOTDibbler · 12/07/2012 08:56

The cuticle oil pen is great, and the stipple foundation brush is brilliant. VV pleased with their brushes generally tbh

MooMinCow · 12/07/2012 09:04

Their eyelid primer is a good cheaper version of Urban Decay Primer Potion (and comes in a few finishes).

I prefer their 'Studio' line of products (like a cheaper 'pro' line). The daily brush cleanser spray is fab! HD powder, mini lash curlers, studio gel/cream liner and studio cream eyeshadows are all on my wish list (am off to States next month so will be going to Target to buy it all!). There is a blush and bronzer duo which is supposed to be similar to a NARS one too.

Don't rate the standard eyeshadows though- pigmentation is totally pants!

Oh and the makeup bags aren't bad either!

BafanaThesober · 12/07/2012 09:07

Do they do anything like benefit's high brow?
I would love to find something that was as good/or nearly as good for half the price!

BafanaThesober · 12/07/2012 09:07

I am quite enjoying lying in bed with a coffee filling my basket though Grin

HappyHippyChick · 12/07/2012 09:18

Gah! MN is soo bad for my bank balance! I was happily tootling along having never heard of elf and now I have a ton of make up winging its way to me! Grin

CutItOutAndRestart · 12/07/2012 13:06

finally got my order in late last night. The mineral set kept disappearing at the checkout so fingers crossed it arrives.

in order to preserve the bank balance I am trying to only buy things recommended by MN from places that take paypal and I only fund the paypal with sales on ebay Wink its a win win situation - I clear the house of what DH regards as tat and invest the proceeds in lovely things like makeup Grin

Bafana - they have this which is similar?

shelldockley · 12/07/2012 14:15

I use elf a lot, some of their stuff is great, some seems a bit cheap though, the customer service is fab. The mineral make-up is really good, I love:

Bronzed mineral glow, just the same as BM warmth imo.
Mineral blushers
Mineral eyeshadows, lovely although there aren't enough colours!
Mineral eyeliner
The foundation wasn't quite right for me and it's a very small pot so doesn't work out that much cheaper than Lily Lolo

Also love the liquid eyeliner, the only one that dries well and doesn't transfer
Liquid eyeshadows are pretty
Bamboo brushes are brilliant, so soft and so cheap!
Lash and brow clear mascara

The only things I tried and didn't rate:
Mineral primer, ok but not as good as smashbox
Setting spray, smelt awful!
Mineral foundation and concealer, colour and coverage not quite right for me
Mascara, I only tried the cheapy one though

BafanaThesober · 12/07/2012 15:40

Thanks MinMoo
I have ordered some!
So much for staying home to save some money!
