www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2172144/Shoe-kidding-British-women-spending-2-5-billion-uncomfortable-footwear-EVERY-YEAR.html

Apparently women buy an avarage of 5 pairs of shoes a year a £27.40.

I wouldn't quite say I didn't & know you could get shoes at that price, because I do, but I didn't think it was anywhere near average, so jut wondered if anyone recognised what was described in this article.

Is that really average (& can you recommend me a shop?) Grin

For disclosure, I am not really on a budget for shoes, but would get Hmm if I bought Louboutins Wink

I buy a pair of vaguely fashionable but essentially comfy boots each September. They represent what new pencil cases used to represent in my youth - it's a back to school thing.

Then I might buy one or two other pairs over the rest of the year, depending on what's given up the ghost the year before. Usually around the £35 - £40 mark.

However I keep going back to the shop to look at these completely frivolous marvels and can't decide whether people would point and laugh at a woman in her mid-40s wearing them. Or indeed where the hell I'd wear them. I just want them.

QueenofPlaids · 11/07/2012 22:13

They aree cool, but yeah 30-something finance person here so not sure where I'd wear them!

That said, ruby slippers aspect: there hae been a fair few few meetings where I'd love to have been able to click my ruby heels together Grin

I mix expensive shoes and cheaper, but I do have a few posh pairs.

I thought the DM in your title was for Dr. Martens Blush

I usually spend around £50-80 on shoes. Less if they're on sale or a good find in TK Maxx.

I have a friend that never spends over £15 though. She goes to New look and similar. I can never see anything I like in these places.

Gettheetoanunnery · 11/07/2012 22:22

I spend waaaay more than that! DM is never right!

bronze · 11/07/2012 22:25

I buy one maybe two Pairs a year and that includes boots and proper flip flops
I spend about 55 a time though as I prefer. Quality
I don't wear heels or uncomfortable shoes

I have friends with hundreds of pairs of shoes!

QueenofPlaids · 11/07/2012 22:32

Yeah I cannot wear uncomfortable shoes, but often shop in sales for basics (so I will get e.g. A pair of Carvela courts for 50-60.)

I will confess I am a shoe fiend, so I have the odd splurge in sales, to which my multiple pairs of Guccis can attest Blush but not as a rule. (Though oddly I splurged £225 on a pair of Mulberry loafers 3 years ago and I still wear them to work regularly & I'm sure I've worn out multiple pairs at £50 in the interim, but I am awfully hard on shoes, despite being fairly little).

Thinking back to hassled's ruby slippers. In my 20s I did build up quite a collection of terribly posh 'going out' shoes, that given my partner friends were rarely worn. I still have most and it is a formidable collection Grin

Now the aforementioned Guccis are much more likely to be court shoes for general smart wear (big meetings, posh dinners, whatever). I suspect I am getting old Wink

What do you splurge on - save up for everyday best, or that big item for going out?

I would say that's probably right for me, although I do buy more than 5 pairs. I quite often buy cheap ballet flats or pumps from the likes if new look, primary, shoe zone and they cost £6 - £10 a pair. Even heals I usually get from new look and they tend to cost about £25 a pair. The most expensive shoes I own we're about £70 and they are the most uncomfortable and hardly ever get worn.
