I need a PROPER raincoat!

You know. A proper one. Not a trendy mac thingy. Not a cagoule. Not a beige zip up job from marksys like my Nan used to wear. I want one made of that thick plastic / oilcloth / PVC stuff like wot you see those Cath Kidston bags made of. I have spent AGES on t'net and I can't find one anywhere. Google PVC wear, and you come up with rather 'ooer' stuff, and I don't think picking DD up from playgroup dressed like a dominatrix would go down VERY well. Eek.

I got a sailing jacket from tk maxx- not quite oil skin but very dry and has a hood and cool pockets for phones and the like.

I have a Marmot Destination jacket. It's not shiny PVC, but it's totally waterproof, knee length, good hood and folds down small to fit in a bag.

I bought a seasalt oilskin type one last year and it's great for summer! But it was in their winter range and they don't seem to have anything similar for this season.

I have a Didriksons Thelma too. I'm short so it's knee length on me. I find it very generously cut, so good for layering underneath and you can cinch in the waist which gives it a nice shape.

I've just ordered a jacket from Seasalt which is waterproof - up until now I've worn a kagoul but an tired of that sweaty feeling it causes. This one is lined with towelling and looks rather cozy. Perfect as we're off to Yorkshire next month on our hols!

Builders I'm short too (5'1") so knee length would be perfect. Guess the 14 would be the best bet then - if its too mahoosive I'm sure returns are possible?

i really like this one and was even in my (much) younger sister's Vogue supplement last month. But do have concerns that there will be those that think I've joined the inland lifeboat crew!
Quba Sails make a lovely sailcloth raincoat in Navy, called Corsica I think which is my number 1 fave but at £300 am sure I can get a decent one for far less. Depends what the budget is though OP.
