we have two wedding receptions next month. same weekend, one is my uncles the other is a childhood friend of dh's. both evening do's at smart hotels.

problem is, Ive never been to just an evening do, Ive always gone to all day parties. so, what tyoe of thing should I wear? A slinky dress as I would to a funky bar? Jeans and sparkly top?

Ive just bought this which looks amazing but I dont know if its ott.

TheDancingPilchard · 07/07/2012 16:14

I tend to wear a shirt cocktail dress to evening dos. So I think that's perfect!

I'd add a wrap/shawl, some statement jewellery and a funky clutch/shoes

catinboots · 07/07/2012 16:16

Short not shirt!

Purplehonesty · 07/07/2012 16:18

Perfect dress for an evening do. And in the sale!!

TyrannosaurusBex · 07/07/2012 16:19

You should so wear that. There's always a really wide sartorial spectrum at evening weddings, from skinny jeans to prom dresses to maxis to LBDs, so it's actually pretty hard to go wrong. Looking and feeling great is the thing.

TheDancingPilchard · 07/07/2012 16:20

thanks, I have some great black sandals, I could wear with a black oversized clutch and dangly earrings?

Sounds great.

TheDancingPilchard · 07/07/2012 16:27

woo hoo, thank you. I really wanted to be able to wear it. I have a zillion "wedding" dresses, for all weathers, all venues but didnt think one of my shifts would look right. AND I can wear proper make up too, none of this "natural" bollocks.

TheDancingPilchard · 07/07/2012 16:33

oooh

or these

or should I stick with black?

It's beautiful, too short and revealing for going to the church, but for the evening it's perfect.

TheDancingPilchard · 07/07/2012 16:47

thanks, it really is v flattering. I am v petite and it fits perfectly. plus my horrible sister will be there. she is 6m pg and The First Woman To Create Life ? not to mention the ego of samantha brick. so (childish as it is) I would like to look pretty damn good.

Like your reasons too: nothing better than knowing you look great sometimes Grin

I actually quite like the second sandals you linked to- think they'd be great if right shade, hard to tell on phone

Cremolafoam · 07/07/2012 17:42

Really smart dress- you'll look beautiful and I think it's perfect. Find some people really dress up for eve do and others I've seen come in jeans but those who make an effort fit in better with the crowd that's been there all day.
Also wow ! £20

catinboots · 07/07/2012 19:04

I LOVE the first sandals! And what a bargain - you'll be able to afford a new clutch too Wink

AnnaMosity · 07/07/2012 19:09

I like. Tell of sizing length and stretch

AnnaMosity · 07/07/2012 19:10

Hmm. Not keen on shoes. Bit stripper. I'd go plain

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/07/2012 19:16

Kurt Geiger shoes are having a sale, cheap and comfy.

I'd go for orange shoes and bag.

TheDancingPilchard · 07/07/2012 19:18

Thank you. I don't get many opportunities to dress up either.

I am excited.

It lands about 3 inches above knee, dress is body-con style but the top stops it being too teenagery. I am v small though 6-8 with narrow hips and freakish legs. I can't do orange, I have ultra fab strappy sandals, black suede.

Oooooh, I think that looks lovely - approrpirately dressy!
