Is 4mm too chunky for a woman's wedding ring?

Just that, really.

I posted before about how DP and I want titanium rings. The local jeweller can do one for him but only goes down to 4mm in ladies' rings. I had thought of 3mm.

Would 4mm be too chunky and blokeish? The other option is to go online and get something like the one below. Any wise opinions? How thick is your wedding band?

Di you really think anyone will notice 1mm difference? Grin

Mine is about 6 mm - I love it!

valiumredhead · 04/07/2012 14:27

Do

Mine is a 5mm 9ct gold court ring. DH is 8mm.
They look lovely (aaaaaahhhh)

I love the halo one.

CherryBlossom27 · 04/07/2012 14:33

I can't picture 4mm without seeing it in real life, but if it's in proportion to your hand/finger size then go for it!

EarnestDullard · 04/07/2012 14:36

Mine is 3mm, but I have quite small hands and my engagement ring band is quite narrow too. I think 4mm would be ok though, it's only 1mm difference.

Wear what suits you!

Just remember to leave room for the whopping great eternity ring your DH will be coerced into spontaneously buy for you one day...

DonaAna · 04/07/2012 16:31

I have two 5mm rings stacked and love them (have been married for 10 yrs and still not tired of them). Long fingers though.

chrisrobin · 04/07/2012 16:43

Mine is 5mm, I love it but then I don't like thin rings nor do I wear my engagement ring with it. I am quite petite and have fairly short fingers.

LadyofWinterfell · 04/07/2012 16:49

Mine is 6mm and doesn't look silly, i wear it alongside my engagement ring too.

RockinD · 04/07/2012 21:22

Mine's 4mm and it's fine, even on my short fingers.

In fact, had I realised the ring would look so good on its own (22ct), I would have gone to 6mm.

5mm here. I have sausage fingers so anything less would be lost on my massive hands! Wink

Abzs · 04/07/2012 21:39

Mine has a 3.75mm flat face with a rounded edge, totalling 4mm.

(I measured it precisely for my stbSIL, who did a poll of all friends and family before she went to make hers. I am very envious of her crafting abilities.)

Stannwigg · 04/07/2012 21:41

Mine is 6 or 7mm and I've got the shortest fingers in the world! I love it though. DH has a narrower one :o

smornintime · 04/07/2012 21:50

Think 4mm would be fine - you could always find a cheapy one and have a try (on the other hand if you're being superstitious).
Mine is 3mm - along with my engagement and eternity rings that are about the same. I have quite small hands and they still fit fine.

EugenesAxe · 04/07/2012 21:51

No. Mine is 3mm and looks very slender; I think 4mm is fine. I wear my engagement ring on top (2mm) permanently.

I'm pretty sure 4mm's what my DMs was (before it got too small for her knuckles to cope with) and I don't recall thinking she looked a freak with it on!

When you think about it there are loads of bands out there for women that are bigger than 4mm.

RevoltingPeasant · 04/07/2012 22:18

Thanks all! I have short fat fingers as the name suggests and ended up just going to jeweller's today at lunch. Decided on 3mm from somewhere else.

The man in the jeweller's obviously thought it was v bizarre that I was buying my own wedding ring Grin

I bought my own ring as well. I knew what style I wanted, found one that fit the bill and went and got it. The jeweller was slightly bemused...

valiumredhead · 05/07/2012 09:09

I bought my own wedding ring as well - had no idea people left it to there partners to do it!

OlympicFlame · 05/07/2012 09:11

I know a lady with a very chunky one... I reckon between 6-8mm. It looks absolutely fab on her. She wears the engagement ring on the other hand.

RevoltingPeasant · 05/07/2012 14:11

valium - I was going to buy DP's and he was going to buy mine. For once I was going to be romantic! Well, sod that. I bought my own and his and then he paid me back for his.

It's like Gone with the Wind round here, I tell ya........
