Please help me to look cool

Although apparently even the word 'cool' isn't cool anymore.

I'm going down to London for what I assume will be dinner and drinks with some very old friends. I haven't seen one of them in years and in that time I have lost a fair bit of weight and am generally just looking a bit better, I think. We studied in London together and she was always very competitive in regards to boys and...well, everything, really. I'm feeling suddenly thrust back into the person I was when we were living in London, and am now massively self-conscious about my appearance. I want to wear something that makes me feel really good. I'm thinking skinny jeans and a top of some kind...I don't want anything too dressy. I was sort of thinking a sheer button-up top tucked in, but I'm aware that doesn't do loads for my figure. I also refuse to wear heels in London, so suggestions for shoes would be welcome.

I'm 29, 5'9", size 14 on the bottom and 12 on top, proportionate chest.

All suggestions welcome. Thank you!

I would suggest some smart ballet pumps, a cute little Whistles esq tee in a muted colour, dark skinny jeans and a funky/ bright scarf. I always find if I am feeling self conscious in mywardrobe choice to make more of an effort with grooming ie tidy eyebrows, painted nails, good hair.

However, my idea of cool can be a little off and my age/stats are identical to yours so am watching with interest...

I think that would be the perfect outfit for daytime...I only wonder if I need something slightly more special for the evening.
Completely with you on general grooming being important to feel good. I never feel quite as good as when my nails are freshly done, and never quite as bad as when they chip!
