Funeral advice please?

My godfather is being cremated on Monday, and they've requested thy dress code be black.
I've bought a knee length black dress, but don't own any black shoes and can't really stretch to buy any. Would dark coloured leopard ballet flats work? Or do I really need to try and find some funds for black shoes?

Also, are nude tights acceptable? Or would black plaques be more appropriate?

I'm sorry for your loss. What you are suggesting to wear sounds just fine. It's more important that you are there to offer support for his family and to remember your godfather. I'm sure nobody will notice or object to your shoes. As for tights, either would be fine.

These days a lot of people have funerals where people are encouraged to wear bright colours. I'm sure the request to wear black is just to make it clear that this isn't a multicoloured funeral.

EdithWeston · 01/07/2012 19:02

If they're dark and not eye-catching, it'll be fine. I suggest nude tights, as the contrast between black opaques and not-actually-quite-black shoes would only draw attention to them.

I hope you give him a good send off and find comfort in the ceremony.

Thank you.
I just don't want to look like I've ignored the family wishes, his daughters and I were very close while growing up and I suppose I'm focussing on shoes as its easier than thinking too much about how they must be feeling Sad
Thank you for the reassurance, I'll go with the ones I have Smile

I have just worn purple shoes to my Grandmas funeral. Wore black skirt and top though.

scentednappyhag · 01/07/2012 19:22

I'm sorry for your loss Missnevermind.
Did anyone comment on the purple shoes?

No. It was Thursday as that rain started.

Most of the women walked around barefoot while we dried off at the wake as we had to run through foot deep puddles to get back to the official cars. And the firemen had to pump the road later before we could go home.

scentednappyhag · 01/07/2012 19:39

Oh my! I hope it didn't make the day more difficult for you than it had to be.

No we were keeping it as light as we could anyway.

It gave us a chance for a laugh and a joke as she hated thunder and lightening. So we were teasing Grandad that she was paying him back for having drinks at the club instead of a pot of tea in a naice tea shop.
And she even sent the Firemen for the girls to swoon over Grin

Thanks for the input Banders, open to new ideas for the next week Smile
I don't tend to do dark shoes, I live in red stilettos usually Blush
I've just remembered I have some black Mary Janes, but they are covered in a tattoo style print, I'll try and find a link and see if they seem more suitable than the leopard pumps.

Sorry, can't make a clickable link as I'm on my phone, do you think these would be ok?

I wouldn't wear leopard-print shoes to a funeral.

polyhymnia · 02/07/2012 20:56

Nor would I if at all avoidable. But if it's unavoidable I'm sure in the end your attitude and empathy will be more important than your footwear.

Have any of your friends got the same size feet and shoes you could borrow?
