Korean BB Creams

AmazingDisgrace · 29/06/2012 22:41

I've tried a few and I know a few people on here also use them so I thought I would start a thread so that we could share our thoughts and on ebay sellers.
I've read that there are a few fakes about ( mainly from China and Taiwan) so this could be useful for anyone thinking about purchasing from Ebay.

Many Korean BB creams just have one or two shades and they like it pale! Some brands are very thick too so really look out for reviews. Obvs I can only review the ones that I or my teenaged daughter have tried. I'm very pale, practically ghostly white in winter - trad Celtic colouring but I do pick up some colour on holiday. Daughter is mixed race - Anglo Indian

I've tried: Missha, Holika Holika and Skin 79

Missha: has good shades, I tried #13 which is the lightest and as it wasn't too thick it blended in beautifully but possibly a little too pale in summer. Daughter went for natural beige (23)... it was ok but she preferred the Garnier one in the darker shade

Holika Holika I tried the Essential one, Daughter the Clearing one. A bit heavy so I think I'll relegate this to winter wear, a good colour for me in winter though too pale for daughter, and whilst I love the packaging and the extra benefits my nose was a little dry and it was a bit cakey it didn't blend at all to her skin tone, gave her a greyish cast. She stuck with it and it did adapt eventually, she loved the fresh feeling of it and swears it helped clear up the spot on her chin

Skin79 We both tried the gold one. Perfect just absolutely perfect! Looked dewy but without the greasy look of Garnier, blended and oxidised to look amazing on our both very different skintones. It only comes in one shade but this is the one for me and her I think!

I've bought from two ebay sellers RubyRubyShop and Sing-Sing-Girl

Anyone else ?

belo-girl on eBay is another reputable seller, and also cosmetic-love.

I've tried Missha, Etude House, Holika Holika and Lioele.

I like Missha and Lioele the best. For reference, I have really oily skin, and have a lot of trouble getting foundation to stay on my face. I've tried many.

I like the Korean bb creams a lot. They are far superior to any European ones I've tried, and so much cheaper generally! I quite like the Estee Lauder bb cream, but it's £32 for 30ml! Whereas the Missha one that I prefer is about a tenner for 50ml.

JemimaPuddle · 30/06/2012 09:05

I've only tried the Missha one so far and it is excellent! It's so different to the BB creams here that they really shouldn't be called BB creams.
I have combination skin, fair with acne marks, occasional spot & terrible pigmentation since I had my youngest. It covers really well & lasts but doesn't look or feel cakey. Only cost £10.50 too.

I have most of the ones mentioned above, (fav is Lioelle but too much coverage for summer)

I also have one by hanskin, (super magic). It's a good one- pale & grey at first but oxidises nicely to match really well. Pretty good coverage, but the best thing is the texture- it kind of dries matte(ish), but not is not mask-like.

By the way, the missha one gave me a rash... Maybe I bought a fake?? None of the others have.

I also have the estee Lauder one, which i like but it's nothing like any of the Korean ones... It's just a tinted moisturiser really, but has good SPF 30.

onetiredmummy · 30/06/2012 20:34

I've thought about buying them on ebay a few times but how do you match your skin?

AmazingDisgrace · 30/06/2012 21:54

Hi onetiredmummy, Most of the Korean ones only have one or two shades, some will adapt to any skintone some won't... unless you are very pale I'd give Holika Holika a swerve. Missha is the exception and often if you click on the item in ebay the details will show the different shades available 13 is the palest and is fine on me 23 is the darkest and was fine on my daughter's anglo indian skin ( she is often mistaken on holiday for being Greek or Spanish if that helps) The skin79 gold one, as I said in the OP adapted really well to both my very pale skin and my daughters and i can heartily reccommend it. I've gone out twice now just wearing that and not layering foundation over the top - not something I've ever been able to do with any UK brands, it has good coverage without being heavy and it looks like my skin just better IYSWIM

I love these bb creams :)

I have purchased from Belo-girl, rubyruby, and sing-sing. Delivery was around a week for each order which I think is pretty quick.

my favourite so far is holika moisture (purple one) I have pale, dry skin with red patches and the coverage is great. Holika essential is nice but a bit thicker to go on for me.

skin79 pink was ok but not as good coverage for my issues. It also added to the peeling areas i.e. Made the dry areas worse.

I also tried an etude house sample which was too dark for me. (can't remember the name)

I will try the skin79 gold later today.

none of these have caused any breakouts for me. I think I read somewhere that misha contains a mineral oil so I have avoided it so far as it may lead to breakouts / rash.

I will be trying lioele next Grin

gingerwench · 11/07/2012 19:48

I have skin79 gold samples from sing sing girl and i am v impressed.

nilbyname · 11/07/2012 19:51

ok, sorry, I have to ask..

What is a BB cream, why do you use it, what is its benefits?

Sorry for thread hijack!

QuinnFabray · 11/07/2012 20:22

It's just a different type of foundation. The Korean and Japanese ones tend to be better than the more recent Western versions.

They are supposed to be a multi-purpose product - sunscreen, moisturiser, primer and foundation in one, often with extra skin-care properties like anti ageing stuff. There's loads of different types, some better than others.

akaemmafrost · 11/07/2012 21:00

Ok I am looking at the Skin 79 gold one on EBay and I am very tempted. I use the Garnier light ATM and love it. Is this one even better?

akaemmafrost · 12/07/2012 12:19

Anyone?

Beckamaw · 12/07/2012 12:45

You lot will bankrupt me! I just ordered the skin79 sample pack. Will report back ASAP!

AmazingDisgrace · 12/07/2012 13:00

Much better Akaemmafrost!

I still prefer the holika to the skin 79 pink or gold, so I would recommend everyone splashes out and tries the skin 79 sample pack and a holika Grin

akaemmafrost · 12/07/2012 15:09

I have ordered. Looking forward because I said I was very impressed with the Garnier one.
