Biggest false economies-buy cheap buy twice?

What are they in your experience?

I think buy cheap buy twice applies to a lot in general - but especially shoes!

Leggings

Shampoo and conditioner, hair serum.

Shoes.

Underwear.

Shoes definitely. Eye shadow as well.

Hair straighteners - went through 3 cheap pairs before getting my GHDs.
Pants - anything less than M&S are rubbish.

I'm actually getting into cheaper make up particularly eye shadow ( have a great Revlon quad) cheap foundation I have discovered over the years is not very good.

Tights.
Jackets & Coats.

I don't wear leggings but agree with foof, most people I know with cheap ones get holey crotches quickly...plus seeing their knicker colour is a bit grim.

Cashmere. My fancy sweaters look like new after years and years of wearing. Cheapos were out of shape and bobbly after the first wash.

Most things, TBH, but buying expensive doesn't always guarantee quality. Buying quality (Brora for cashmere, decent underwear etc etc etc) rather than mindlessly paying just for labels has almost never failed to pay off for me. I have a capsule wardrobe, so my clothes get worn a lot, and the (more expensive) better quality stuff lasts so much better on the whole.

Hair bobbles, I bought some pound shop ones that just snapped as soon as you stretch them slightly.

Ditto kirby grips, the cheap ones I bought bent out of shape instantly.

Razors, I only ever cut myself when using cheap razors.

Pen-brush concealer, Touche Eclat is the best IMO.

Clothes and shoes.
Sports kit.
Waterproofs

tights

cheapo ones are literally for one use only

YY to waterproofs too

Anything that should be expensive. Cashmere, shoes, leather.

YY to tights.

tupperware/plastic containers
muslin cloths
cotton wool pads
towels
tea towels
eye shadow
blusher
nail varnish
shampoo

Nearly anything from Zara, COS and H&M.

Cheap tampons
Tights

Nail polish remover- just doesn't remove
Mascara-smudges, all wet, gets in eyes
Dolly shoes-why do I keep thinking primark is ok?
Bras-probably less of an issue with non mahoosive boobs.

Hmmm, I think this is only partly true. I don't spend masses of money on clothes and shoes but I do look after them and can honestly say that I have had to throw very few clothes or shoes out because I have 'worn them out' or they broke/ split etc. I certainly am not someone who chucks something out because a button falls off or there's a split seam which can be repaired. Yes to shoes - it's worth buying what you can afford, but I think that with a bit of care - both when buying and wearing - you can get your money's worth out of them. I reckon brands like John Lewis live and die by this slogan
