I have to look fab for 8 hours in make-up. What make-up would you fit in a clutch bag for a long evening event?

I'm going to a massive summer ball next weekend which lasts from 7 - 4am. I don't normally wear make up but will be doing the full works (foundation, smoky eyes, lipstick, touche eclat, etc.) Am also contemplating false eyelashes but am worried about them falling off (or me taking them off if I get annoyed with them) and leaving a gaping make-up free space on my eyelids. So what do you take with you if you have to look fab for hours and hours? Everything so you can re-touch? Or what key items do I need?

I would use Bare Minerals as it stays put and won't need retouching - all you'll need is a lippy!

CMOTDibbler · 28/06/2012 12:43

Use primer, apply foundation with a stipple brush, use MAC liquilast eyeliner, and max factor lipfinity/liptint.

I do that when working at conferences where I get dressed at 6.30am, and need to look good till at least 7pm with no chance to do more than the odd addition of lipstick.

In a clutch bag I'd have oil absorbent sheets, lippie, and a couple of cotton buds (to tidy up eye makeup)

MAC studio fix foundation compact, body shop cheek and lip stain, eyeliner pencil. Covers all emergencies Grin

second using primer before you go out (for both eyes and face). Barbara Daly @ TEsco are good and v. cheap.

I know some people spray a fine layer of hairspray on their faces - but never tried it myself.

If you do wear false eyelashes, take a little tube of eyelash glue with you.

Lippie and eyeliner a must, eyeliner can be used to touch up lids if you are going dark smokey eyes

yeah I got replies! thanks people!

ok, I bought some primer (check)

will take the eyelash glue, it's tiny so will fit but I hope I don't drop it in a drunken fumble at 2am!

max factor lipfinity (check)

good tip on applying foundation with brush, thanks - will do that.

i have a different brand of foundation, and other stuff to those you've suggested, but I like your tips on longevity so I'll note those for next time thank you so much!

next question: what do you do when your mascara sheds fibres on your cheeks after a few hours? If I wipe it off I'll wipe the foundation off too. Do you take foundation as well to cover up again? Or is there a way to stop this happening? Or is that what the the cotton buds are for?

I think the answer may be yes....

Also, I have forehead wrinkles which get highlighted if I put foundation on my forehead. What do you do to avoid "wrinkle highlight?" ???!!!!

other than botox

I'd change your mascara! Seriously, never had fibres on my cheeks... you can get "stuff" which helps "fill in" the wrinkles.

You know, i think you are stressing too much. People aren't going to care what they/you look like after a few hours and certainly not at 4am.... just chill and enjoy yourself!

onetwoflea · 28/06/2012 23:25

hi, thanks for replies. sorry for delayed response - am doing this in between work/kids/house stuff.

perhaps you're right, if everyone else would please get drunk after I have arrived looking fab, then I won't need any touch ups!

no idea what 'stuff' to fill in wrinkles is tho'

thanks for the help girls - I'll go and enjoy myself!

THIS is the 'stuff' that fills in wrinkles - or one example of it, anyway. Most big face brands will have similar. I can't recommend this (no need ), but I think I've seen it get good reviews?

Clinique Lash Power Mascara is my recco for long wear mascara however. It stays on for 14+ hours for me, never smears or flakes, and it's a good mascara, very buildable.

fanjobiscuits · 28/06/2012 23:39

Urban Decay primer keeps eye makeup on, crease free, all day/night for me. Benetint good under red lippie to extend wear time but not 8 hours.

onetwoflea · 29/06/2012 00:02

ooooh, I didn't know about THAT stuff....will nip off to Boots smartish.

And good old clinique. I may swap my maybelline mascara for that one.

Thanks y'all - now need some beauty sleep!
