Ive been reading posts in here for a while so thought i could get some good advice for dh, he has a job interview soon its the second interview for a field sales managerial position, hes praying to get this job so definatly wants to impress at the interview first interview he didnt wear a suit just trousers shirt and tie and it was picked up that he should of had a jacket on but wasnt held against him as everything else was perfect so this time he wants to get it right. He bought this suit www.next.co.uk/g37308s1#809616g37 and while googling for advice on a shirt and tie i came across alot of people saying pinstripes at an interview are a no no! is this correct should he return and buy something else? if not can anyone recommend a shirt and tie colour? much appreciated

edit - should maybe add that the reason he went for the stripe is he is small 5'7 tops and very broad chested so looks wide in a suit

That suit should be fine - it's very smart. When people say pinstripes are a no no I would assume they mean those really obvious ones - like massive white stripes on a black suit. They look really cheap imo and don't really scream "employ me". My DH is a serious business type and he oftens wears suits with a subtle pinstrip like the one your DH has bought.

For an interview I would suggest a plain white shirt and light blue tie with that suit. Have a look on one of the specialist shirt retailer websites to get some ideas of what looks good - e.g. Thomas Pink/TM Lewin.

thank you that will help put his mind at ease, i was thinking white shirt with a grey tie but blue would be nice, thanks :)

This is quite helpful. The suit is fine, pinstripes were once considered a bit radical, I think times have changed. Certainly for a Sales position, I'm sure the suit will be great.

I'd go for a blue shirt with pink contrast behind the collar and cuffs, and a red/purple patterned tie. White shirt + red tie might look a bit junior.
