Bamboo clothing

Does anyone rate clothing made of bamboo fibres?

A catalogue arrived this morning - and thought I may want to try it.

The prices are higher than my usual t-shirts - so wondered if anyone thinks it is worth it for the comfort/no need to iron/ethical stuff?

I bought a children's bamboo jumper which looked beautiful and was really soft and lovely. Unfortunately it shrung to half the size the first time I washed it, so it was the first and last piece of bamboo clothing I ever bought!

shrimponastick · 27/06/2012 13:52

Oh no. That isn't good.

Did you return it?

i've just ordered a bamboo/cotton mix fabric to make a top, app is dye fast and wont shrink....will let you know

Abzs · 27/06/2012 14:31

I have a Dare2Be jacket with bamboo fibre. Fabric is lovely and has coped with various slatherings of bike oil, unfortunately can't say the same for the zip quality...

I've got a bamboo dress and I love, so soft and cool. Fab.

IcouldstillbeJoseph · 27/06/2012 14:35

I had some bamboo nursing tops cos they were going cheap and very soft and comfy

shrimponastick · 27/06/2012 15:03

mmm sounding better. Thank you for all your replies.

The stuff I am looking at is all very casual wear - t-shirts, leggings, baselayers etc. They have a 4 for 3 offer on - as well as a sale. I will put a link in case anyone wants a poke. www.bambooclothing.co.uk

It falls beautifully, lovely and supple.

Anypointinseeingdoc · 27/06/2012 16:57

Is it not just another word for viscose?

MissFoodie · 27/06/2012 17:08

no, viscose is made from wood

jennifersofia · 27/06/2012 20:45

I was given some bamboo socks which had fluffy layer on the inside sole - fabulous. Very soft and extra warm, but not itchy or too thick like wooly socks.

shrimponastick · 27/06/2012 20:47

I have placed an order for a few things - so will see how they are and report back.

Thanks for all your replies.

Oh I love bamboo stuff, I have a few things and so do the dc's, beautifully soft, and cool in the summer, warm in the winter.

MirandaGoshawk · 27/06/2012 20:52

I have some teatowels made from bamboo Smile Does that count? They are from Pampered Chef, they were a free gift because I spent so much money. They are lovely & soft. I don't think they are as 'indestructible' as cotton teatowels, but prob the same as cotton jersey clothing.

saladcravings · 27/06/2012 23:31

oh, i have some leggings from that brand shrimponastick. So far seem like cotton really, but obviously better for the environment (bamboo needs less water / pesticides). I like them.

Update

My order arrived this morning. I placed the order on Wednesday evening, recieved a confirmation email, and then the next day one telling me the goods had been despatched.

I am currently wearing vest and vneck top and these leggings

All very comfy, fit perfectly. I am going to wear them al day! Maybe wil try out the leggings and vest for parkrun tomorrow.

I also got a top for DS but he isn't here to try it on yet.

I ordered four items, as it was buy four, pay for three. Even though they were sale prices.

Very impressed so far. I don't foresee any issues with washing and shrinkage - but only time will tell.

DS' top is a hit. He really likes it - and regaled me with the facts and figures about usign bamboo as a good renewable resource.. they studied it at school recently.

He is a smelly teen -and I have to say he has worn it all weekend and it doesn't whiff at all!

Winner!!

shrimponastick · 02/07/2012 07:42

Oh - I did't explain properly.

The clothing from this particular brand (I dont know if it applies to all clothing made from bamboo fibres) is said to be antibacterial, therefore less sweaty smells!

What puts me off bamboo is that it holds on to water meaning it takes ages to dry. If you rely on indoor drying and have no heating on you could be in for a long wait.

shrimponastick · 02/07/2012 07:59

ah well - ihave yet to wash them. We dont have a tumble dryer - so do use the heating or the sunshine.

Will see how that goes!

OP posts:
Bienchen · 02/07/2012 08:06

shrimp, bamboo must not be tumbled anyway it will shrink massively.

I wore my new stuff all day Friday and Saturday. It's all more sportwear really, but I don't care.

Will wear it again today - so comfy and soft.

I usually can't wait to get home to take off tight jeans - this lot looks better than my pjs!! Grin

Bunbaker · 02/07/2012 08:32

I have some bamboo socks. They are the softest, most comfortable socks I own. They were initially bought for OH, but they shrank too much, but they fit me so it wasn't a waste of money. I like bamboo towels as they are so soft, but find them difficult to find.

lurkingaround · 02/07/2012 09:29

I have a bamboo scarf. It's v nice but crinkles like crazy. Do the t-shirts etc not wrinkle much?
