Facial exfoliator

What is a facial exfoliator exactly? I've heard it mentioned on here a few times but whenever I stand scanning the shelves in supermarkets I can only see scrubs and masks, etc.

Can you recommend where I might be able to find one? Good brands, stores?

Also, how do you use it?

I use a Trilogy one, it's a facial scrub with tiny beads in it to gently remove the grimy cells from the skin.. Makes your face feel babysoft after use.

I like the Liz Earle facial exfoliator - I have quite sensitive skin and find that some are too harsh but this one is just fine.

All their stuff is lovely ...
