Is it just me, or is this embarrassing?

If I am clothes shopping, and I go into a high street shop and I realise that I am wearing something I bought from there, I feel uncomfortable.

I know it is irrational, after all, they sell clothes, and they expect that people will wear them. But there have been times when I have said to myself, "No, I can't go in [insert name of shop] today because I am wearing x that I bought from there."

Is it just me?

No, I agree.

redglow · 25/06/2012 22:52

I agree I had to walk out of m and s last week.

dexter73 · 25/06/2012 22:52

No I don't do that or I would end up never going in my favourite shops!

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 25/06/2012 22:54

I always feel really out of place if I'm wearing something not very stylish. Like old jeans or something. Like I'm not cool enough :(

perceptionreality · 25/06/2012 22:55

No, it's not just you! You're right.

LynetteScavo · 25/06/2012 22:57

No, seriously?

So if you have a Mulberry bag, you can't go into Mulberry?

How far does this extend?

Confused
WowOoo · 25/06/2012 22:58

Perception Grin It is odd.
I slightly feel your uncomfortableness.
What you need to do is to buy huge amounts of clothing from bijou shops in Europe and the States.
Solving the problem easily with a few thousand Euros and Dollars. Da na !!

thornbury · 25/06/2012 22:58

I have a TK Maxx bag, Mulberry is well beyond my price range!

But most of my clothes come from Gap.

So I have to wear them when I go shopping.

If I felt embarrassed, I would never get new clothes.

CHOOGIRL · 25/06/2012 23:24

Depends on the shop really. It has been to my advantage when the sales assistant recognises me as a regular customer and offers either a secret sale or discount.

givememarzipan · 26/06/2012 05:41

I get embarrassed at this too, I once couldn't go into my
favourite shop as the mannequin at the front entrance was wearing my dress Blush

dexter73 · 26/06/2012 06:37

I'm not getting why you are embarassed? Is it because you think they might think you have pinched said item? I'm confused!!Confused

redglow · 26/06/2012 07:35

I don't know why I get embarrassed it's not because they think I might have pinched it. It's really silly I know.

I feel the opposite. It's like I'm saying, see I'm a good customer, I spend money here si treat me well.

TheOneWithTheHair · 26/06/2012 07:53

*so

AmberNectarine · 26/06/2012 08:56

No, like Choogirl I have found it has worked to my advantage, and I have been told about private sales/discounts. Also in higher end shops you tend to get a better quality of service if you are wearing the brand. I get fussed round a lot more in Mulberry if I walk in with one of their bags.

HipHopOpotomus · 26/06/2012 11:38

this is madness! and must interfere with shopping Grin
