Emergency S&B help needed - repeat, emergency

Going out tonight with colleagues. Lots of them older than me (I am 36, they are 50+). A couple are much younger (early 20s).

Plan is - bar meal in hotel bar, then on to Trendy Wine Bar for drinks etc. - the sort of place that's a converted Victorian warehouse with live music and dance floor although unlikely to get that far.

WTF do I wear?

Random things I have:

plain black shift type dress but really too officey

indigo skinny jeans

some quite nice animaly print slingbacks

a top I bought in error which is a nice floaty print but too high in the neck and has a peplum for God's sake, what was I thinking?

a nice black bias cut asymmetric skirt which is very flattering indeed but I have no idea what to wear with it

a sleeveless mock-wrap LKBennett double layer floaty sort of dress which is very pretty but poss a bit wedding-y

oh what oh what oh what???

Why can't I do cool and edgy?

It probably looks very good.

or do jeans w/ Animal print shoes & another top.

Shift dress sounds ok, would it work with slingbacks?

Or can you do skinny jeans, ballet pumps, some kind of top and jacket? Blazer or leather jacket ideally.

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/06/2012 17:21

Jeans, animal print slingbacks, and a top.

As long as your comfortable you will be fine.

sugarice · 22/06/2012 17:28

Skinny jeans for sure, is the floaty dress short enough to wear with the jeans and the sling backs?

IAmRubyLennox · 22/06/2012 17:47

OK - update.

I now have on the skinny jeans and the animal print slingbacks, and that part gets a big tick.

The dodgy peplum top looked dire and DD could barely keep a straight face.

Sadly, the floaty dress is too long to wear over jeans / leggings, it's definitely a wedding / christening job.

Could wear with plain black scoop neck 3/4 sleeve stretchy top with gold chain belt to jazz up the whole shooting match. Still a bit dull though.

Bollocks, why did I not go to shops?

Do you have a blazer? Any other top at all? You must have something else?!

BranchingOut · 22/06/2012 18:40

Don't over think this. Half of them will be looking at you and marvelling at how young and radiant you are :).

Jeans and the top sound fine. Necklace?

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/06/2012 18:41

The older women are probably worried too you know.

Have you got a red top? too obvious?

IAmRubyLennox · 23/06/2012 09:59

in the end, went for skinnies, peep-toe wedges, flowery top and little cardigan. Not exactly cool but definitely more summery. Also, turned out to be basically the same as everybody else!

I always do this - way overthink it, end up with my default outfit (skinnies, wedges, top) and the moment the first drink is put in my hand it all ceases to matter.

Good night, was it?

Agree with Fluffycloud

I have a virtual nervous breakdown before every event!

I buy staples off ebay now eg Karen Millen LBD.
