I can't stop buying pretty Fantasie bras. What are your favourite styles etc?
is this a weird fandom?

MavisGrind the independent store that I was fitted at also did/does that. mystical bra fitting ladies?

lizardqueenie · 19/06/2012 22:51

This has just reminded me I need to get some new ones, boobs have prob changed quite a bit but yy for these being the best brands.sorry to sidetrack buy the only thing i've noticed with Freya bras is sometimes they rub/ dig in on the inside of each boob if that makes sense, so where the underwriting starts? Not armpit end but the other end. Anyone else have this?

RainbowTurtle · 19/06/2012 22:54

I love Freya. Fantasie seem about a size smaller.

MavisGrind · 19/06/2012 22:55

yy - do they have to pass some test? Shown a series of flash cards of ordinary women walking down the street and they have to come up with their cup size??

Admittedly it's a bit like walking into an episode of Are You Being Served shows age but there is something comforting about the brisk efficiency they wait outside the curtain followed by "is madam ready?... Grin

Itsgottabebags · 19/06/2012 22:55

Rainbow I nearly always size up cup wise in Freya and stay true to size in Fantasie. Horses for courses eh?

Itsgottabebags · 19/06/2012 22:58

Mavis-what I have found is that I feel much more taken care of in the independent that I go to than other where some of the SA's are just so busy/cba to help with queries

OP posts:
marriednotdead · 19/06/2012 23:00

Confession. I am one of the mystical ladies Smile

I never call anyone madam though Grin

Itsgottabebags · 19/06/2012 23:02

married how did you aquire these mythical powers? Is it hard when you meet someone and can just tell they are wearing the wrong size?

OP posts:
lizardqueenie · 19/06/2012 23:03

Huge apologies for all of the mistakes in my post Blush

MavisGrind · 19/06/2012 23:04

You're right - in the place I go they will comment on whether the style suits you, not just whether it fits!

I suspect this thread is going to lead to a shopping trip!

Bought tabitha last time..

MavisGrind · 19/06/2012 23:10

oooh, married how do you do it??? Do you get enraged that you see so many women wearing the wrong size....?

Where, roughly, in the country are you? (I just want to make sure you're not one of my mystical ladies before I out myself!)

cece · 19/06/2012 23:15

I must get fitted. Have not been measured for about 4 or 5 years now. In that time I have had DC3 and bf him for 20 months....

Northumberlandlass · 20/06/2012 07:55

I have this matching set from Freya with pants (lovely ruched (sp?) at back
Patsy

BUT - my ultimate favourite bra's are from Fauve - seriously worth the money and if ever I do have spare cash, it's where I look. Just the most beautiful fit.

Fauve

marriednotdead · 20/06/2012 08:21

MavisGrind I'm in London.

Once you've been fitted properly, it's quite easy to spot a badly fitting bra. After that it's like solving a puzzle.

It doesn't enrage me but the desire to throw a net over some women and drag them in to be fitted is frequent!

I have bigger problems with the 'well M&S/ La Senza say I'm a 36E so how come you think I'm a 32H? Your bras must come up wrong'. Nope, I'm right and surely you can see that your boobs are 8 inches higher now?!

Pet hate- 'I know my size'. Ok. (Inside my head saying 'well why aren't you wearing it then?' whilst averting gaze from fighting ferrets under her top).

Lizardqueenie some Freya styles have a very wide centre wire which will cause the problem you're having, especially if your boobs sit close together. Try either a plunge style or another brand, maybe Panache.

Itsgottabebags · 20/06/2012 08:30

married the Freya bras sometimes hurt on the outer sides eveb when I have sized up the cup. Any ideas why?

(Maybe you'll become the M N bra guru?)

OP posts:
marriednotdead · 20/06/2012 09:49

Itsgottabebags It could be a number of things.

  1. Cup size. The wire needs to sit behind the breast tissue. Sometimes this means going up a cup or two then putting your hands into the cup and really pulling your boob up and in (as if towards an (imaginary) necklace. A lot of women assume that the flesh showing at the outer sides is fat, where it is usually boob!
  2. Wire length v boob height. If the 'root' of your boobs is quite high then the wires may finish higher in your armpits. It has nothing to do with how firm they are generally, having to shorten the straps a fair bit is a good indication of this. If you are quite full busted compared to your band size it's also more likely to happen- bigger cups= longer wires.
  3. Wire shape. Some wires have a narrower 'U' shape than others. If your boobs are flatter rather than full forward- think saucer rather than cup- then the wire will finish before your breast does. It's therefore a case of choosing another style.

Just like buying jeans and shoes, every style fits differently and sometimes it better to let the style choose you.

Does any of that help?

I've seen several 'gurus' around on these boards though not lately. Happy to join the club though Grin

FunnysInLaJardin · 20/06/2012 10:04

married now I am worried that my boobs have been pointing in different directions without my knowledge. I am no super model thats for sure, but am less than an E by a whisker. I'm 36/38 D. Rio really do seem to be the only bra that gives me a good shape

Caerlaverock · 20/06/2012 10:06

i am waiting in for a deliver of 3 new freya bras and pants from secret sales. complete bargain.

they are fantastic bras esp. as i am 30e, a size which seems lacking on the high street.

mistlethrush · 20/06/2012 10:11

I like the Fantasie ones that Cardoon linked to - I've got narrow shoulders and the straps just don't slip. At all. Grin

GobblersKnob · 20/06/2012 10:13

Itsgottabebags you might want to try bending your underwires, really good explanation here. Like marriednotdead says often this happens when you are a large cup compared to band (I am a 30G) bending the wires makes a massive difference to me, so much more comfortable, try it and see.

comelywench · 20/06/2012 10:22

Lizardqueenie I have experienced that too with new Freya bras on occasion. I haven't had any probs with Deco or another Freya plunge style so I suspect married speaks the truth (not that there was ever any doubt you understand!)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Freya. I just know I can try on two or three of their styles and be sure to find at least one that works for me. I appreciate the support they provide as well. Other brands I've tried Elle MacPherson have left me a little saggy relaxed.

Caerlaverock · 20/06/2012 13:33

My new. Bras arrived, fantastic.

Do you hand wash your bras? I tend to hand wash new ones for a month or so then lose interest

GobblersKnob · 20/06/2012 13:49

I handwash all my bras and all my pants, machine washing underwired ones will just knacker them.

Caerlaverock · 20/06/2012 13:55

Rightio gobbler, thanks
