white vest tops

Can anyone recommend where I can got some basic white vest tops that are not see-through? I have bought from DP's, Gap (the worst ones!), New Look and Topshop, all of which are really see through, and even with a nude coloured bra I feel like they are just too lightweight to wear as a proper top without something over them. I live in vest tops but this year they all just seem to be such cheap quality!

TIA Smile

Toffee, Have you tried H&M? I find their vest tops really good and they are long length which I prefer.

DD has about 300. Mostly from Primarni. They are cheap and not seethroughSmile

Thanks for the replies, Northumberlandlass and bigtillyminy! I've not tried H&M, so will pop in and take a look! We don't have a Primark near us, so can't try there easily. I usually have to stock up from primani when we go to the nearest city!! Grin

I got some lovely ones from Sainsburys, would you believe? they do some with added Lycra too, for about £4/5.

monkeysmama · 19/06/2012 12:44

I second H&M. Thy have one for £5.99 that's brilliant.

katamongthepigeons · 19/06/2012 14:30

I've just bought a longer length white one from the Warehouse essentials range. Def not see through.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/06/2012 17:17

I have made this my latest mission and currently have failed.

Gap - rubbish quality
Warehouse - dreadful - thin, tiny and short - even the black was see through!
DP's - cheap feeling
H&M - too short and thin
M&S - awful - clingy, thin, short, see through

The only ones I've seen that I like so far are The White Company but I just can't justify spending 20 odd quid for a vest.

Fatface ones on e-bay.....

toffeefee · 19/06/2012 19:10

Wow! Loads of replies! Right, so I need to check out H&M, Primark, Warehouse and Sainsbo's. Thanks for all of the suggestions!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie, not sure I can justify £20 per top either! Grin

Katiescarlet, do you have a link to the ebay ones?

Thanks again! Smile

Lands end? Or kettlewell colours are meant to be good- I haven't tried.

monkeysmama · 19/06/2012 22:52

Which H&M ones did you try? I've been wearing the non maternity H&M ones over my very large pg bump. I have quick thick ones that are definitely long enough.

i wouldnt go to primark if your wanting them to NOT be see through, every vest top ive bought from their is see through :(

Staceisace · 21/06/2012 01:16

It's difficult to get decent white vest tops but the best I've found are from H&M - I like the fit of those best too. In saying that, I have some camis from Primark that are white and not see-through too. I don't like the vests from DP, Topshop and GAP as they're all too short on me.

lilbreeze · 21/06/2012 01:34

I've got some h&m ones which sound exactly like the ones monkeymama described even though I bought them 5 years ago!

They're very smooth, stretchy, long and non-see-through and funnily enough I also bought them to go over a large pregnant bump (though they're fine when not pregnant too!)

I bought white, black and brown and they've washed well and lasted well.

Filofax · 21/06/2012 09:35

Try Tesco's fair-trade vest (still only about £3). Good quality and not see through. Sainsburys did some nice ones a while ago but think they r no longer in stock. I've tried Gap, Next, Top Shop, Asda and M and S and none have come up to scratch!

seeker · 21/06/2012 09:37

Dd has loads from HandM- they are really good and not see through.

thenightsky · 21/06/2012 09:41

I found some lovely thick ones in Bon Marche of all places! And the straps are not too long. I hate long straps that have to be stitched up so your norks don't hang out every time you bend forwards.
