How long do your bras last?

Lottapianos · 18/06/2012 20:30

I'm a 34GG so they certainly have a tough job to do! I have bought some great ones from Bravissimo - they are very supportive and a great fit, but I find that I only get about 3-4 months out of them before I have pulled the straps as tight as possible but the elastic has started to go and I just look a bit 'saggy' when wearing bra.

Is this normal for the large-of-chest? Do I just need to suck it up, or are there other brands you would recommend which last longer?

Disclaimer - I wash my bras in the machine. Life is too short for handwashing so I''m not prepared to start Smile

I wear playtex or fantasie and they last up to a year provided I stay the same size.

bonzo77 · 18/06/2012 20:46

I suppose about a year, but my boobs change a bit so I have various sizes that don't get worn for ages. I wash them inside an old pillow case, which I think protects them a bit.

Itsgottabebags · 18/06/2012 20:47

Handwash all my bras which are Fantasie/Freya. Some bras still going nearly 2 years later.

Are you the originator of t'other bra thread? Still curious as to how often you wash them... after every wear is too often I reckon. That'll kill 'em.

Charliefox · 18/06/2012 21:39

Yes, mine give up the will to live and die after about 3-4 months of being worn 3-4 days a week.

LynetteScavo · 18/06/2012 21:48

It depends how many you have on the go at the same time. I have 20,000 bras but only wear about 3, washing every other day and tumble drying (is that grim?) but, yes they last a year.

Pelicano · 18/06/2012 21:50

I handwash and never tumble mine as they are Freya and what I consider expensive. I have about 10 on the go and I suppose that's why they last at least 18 months/2 years for me.

Lottapianos · 19/06/2012 07:21

Nature, yes I started the other thread too. I agree about over-washing bras - I think it's bloody madness to wash after every wear! I would say I wash about every 10 wears - I'm sure some will be horrified but I'm a bit of a lazy mare. Apparently Vivienne Westwood never ever washes her bras, so we're in good company Wink

I wash mine in those padded bags, probably after 3-4 days wear. I have 3 or 4 bras on the go at once.

Niceupthedance · 19/06/2012 08:39

My most recent set of bras are from rigby and peller, they told me do not ever tumble dry your bras. I believe it is the same for jeans.

AllPastYears · 19/06/2012 08:39

Mine last years. Am I doing something wrong?

Wear each for 2 days before washing (wool wash in machine). I have about half a dozen.

MrsRobertDuvallHasRosacea · 19/06/2012 09:01

Mine last about a year.
I buy Prima Donna or Empreinte as I am 32f/g ...have never handwashed them.
They go in the machine on 30.

In fact, the last time I went to Rigby and Pellar, wearing an old bra, the lady said "oh I can see you handwash your bras". Smile

QueenCadbury · 19/06/2012 09:57

Mine last about 4-6 months. Have 4 on the go and hardly ever wash them but like you I bung them in the washing machine when I do. It's an expensive business replacing bras when I would much rather be spending the money on nice clothes instead!

RamblingRosa · 19/06/2012 10:48

Mine last years and years. I hand wash (not that often Blush) and I have lots of bras so I suppose none of them get worn that much IYSWIM. I also tend to get Freya, Fantasie, and Panache bras which I think are probably better made than some of the cheaper ones.

HazleNutt · 19/06/2012 11:31

years and years, but I have tons of them, so don't wear the same one that often.

FoofyShmooffer · 19/06/2012 16:13

Longer than they feasibly should I think. Probably about a year? I machine wash but not often Blush

alemci · 19/06/2012 16:16

mine go on for ages. I think some of them are probably a bit old but i have loads on the go. i do mine on a machine handwash. usually washed after 3 days' wear

Meggles76 · 19/06/2012 21:01

I used to always buy Triumph bras and knickers a couple of times per year. 2-3 bras on rotation and maybe 1 extra 'special' set. It would set me back well over £100 each time.
In a bid to save money, I did the replacement buying in Sainsbuys when they had 25% off. I have black, white and nude bras with colour matched lacy knickers for a fraction of the cost. They are washing and wearing well.
