I know I have to eat better, get more sleep etc but I really want something that will just freshen up my skin that doesnt involve surgery or weekly facials Grin. I'm sure I read something recently about a face cream around £20 that beauty editors were saying was amazing and as good as the really expensive ones but I cant remember the name, maybe loreal?. If you know which one it is or have been using a great one please share.

Watches thread intently!
39 but looked haggard for years!

Wolfiefan · 15/06/2012 22:05

I love beauty flash balm under a foundation or Estée Lauder instead of one.
Watching to find fab moisturiser tho!

I love, love love Soap & Glory's 21 Day Collagen Overhaul Cream. I usually hate S&G products (having been seduced into wasting spending on them), but this really works, far better than anything I've used (and I've wasted so much - my dressing table looks like a beauty counter).

I have sensitive skin (even allergic to Rosehip Oil), so I thought that this scented, thick cream would be rubbish, but it gives me lovely skin

The other thing I like is Vitamin E. You can get a skincare oil from Superdrug, for only £s - which is good - but I like to sometimes open a Vitamin E capsule, and spread that over my face.

No 7 Protect & Perfect Serum, has (apparently) workable levels of retinol in, and I do like it (but am too lazy to have a proper routine, and too poor to buy really good stuff).

Well I'm a decade ahead of you OP. Looking back I wish I'd worn sun screen every day and given up alcohol. That's it really.

I think genetics has a hand to play also?

Nivea Q10 has really made a difference to me

memphis83 · 16/06/2012 06:51

My sister is 39 and started using Loreal Youth Code a few months ago, everyone has noticed a difference, if you have a Savers near ypu most creams are a lot cheaper than boots.

DonaAna · 16/06/2012 06:59

Haggard no more.
Night creams, including L'Oreals and Chanel's ultra sensitive Sublimage were not enough for me. P&P and Sublimage gave me pimples. Retinoids irritate my slightly couperosa prone dry skin. (Eucerin 5% urea cream gives immediate relief if my skin gets too dry and scaly.)

Instead, I need a full makeup routine.

Chanel Hydra Beauty Serum (the best I've tried!) as a primer, Chanel Lift Lumiere liquid foundation (gives a dewy look - better staying power than Vitalumiere) and Guerlain Les Meteorites finishing powder pearls will do the trick for me. I've never looked better.

Ask for free samples at the counters.

I also need to use lipstick and blusher. Basically, I use a lot of nude tones and strategic illuminators on my face and eyes to get my face to look the same it looked when I was 20. It's a 15 minute effort every morning.

My skin is mostly in good condition, I use foundation just to cover up the uneven skin tone and slight redness and to get the glow.

Oh, and I'm 39.

Also, remember the usual stuff: eat your vitamins, try to get a bit more sleep, protect yourself from sun and don't smoke. They make a huge difference.

DonaAna · 16/06/2012 07:01

Sorry, meant Chanel's ultre expensive Sublimage...
I also got pimples from Genifique plus it had an obnoxious scent.

lagartija · 16/06/2012 07:07

Sun cream everyday, even in the UK. Good skin runs in my family but I'm suddenly looking really wrinkled I think and I'm sure it's living in Southern Spain and all the sun exposure that's done it. I'm 37. I've been using oil of olay with spf15 for years but think it's time to use some proper sunblock everyday (i.e a higher factor) as I'm freckled and I think the sun is wrecking my skin, especially roun the eyes and nose from wrinkling them up against the sun.

AKissIsNotAContract · 16/06/2012 07:14

Botox

Rabid · 16/06/2012 07:22

Cream makes no diff. Are all the same.

NorksAreMessy · 16/06/2012 07:27

If you smoke, stop immediately! The different between non-smoker's skin and smokers is more and more obvious as you get a little older.

All creams work...if you put them on. I have used basic Nivea in a blue tin every day for 30 years and still rate it's performance as highly as any other I may have tried on a whim.
You need to be conscientious about cream day and night and sunscreen if you are out and about

muttimalzwei · 16/06/2012 09:33

Body Shop Vitamin E, day and night cream. I'm 42 and look about 36 (average rating), if that helps. I have used it for about 6 years.
