I would wear that outfit with a nice blazer but that's just me!

SkivingAgain · 15/06/2012 21:44

I am over 40, and I am worn out Sad

But the outfit sounds okay if you have the figure - age is just a number. If you've got it, flaunt it.

holstenlips · 15/06/2012 21:45

Yes i have a blazer good thinking batwoman. Or i.have a sheer black sleeveless blouse.

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 15/06/2012 21:45

If it looks good,it looks good.

Forget all that mutton shite.

cece · 15/06/2012 21:46

In my mind I would but I am not a size 10 with small boobs so think I shouldn't. But you definitely should. Smile

holstenlips · 15/06/2012 21:46

Tbh ive not really got it but quite like pretending i have

holstenlips · 15/06/2012 21:47

Hopefully boob tube wont fall down and expose fried eggs

OP posts:
KristinaM · 15/06/2012 22:08

Yes to skinny jeans
No to boob tube

But thats just me. If youve got it, flaunt it

holstenlips · 15/06/2012 22:12

Well i probably dont have it. But t shirts frump me out. Maybe something over boob tube. Im quite hourglass so anything flowy just looks a bit bulky.

I'd stick with the blazer.

holstenlips · 15/06/2012 23:24

When i say blazer its more of a black tux thing.

cerealqueen · 15/06/2012 23:41

If you look in the mirror and feel good, wear it!

holstenlips · 15/06/2012 23:52

Thanks! I really get too warm in too many clothes and im thinking hot sweaty pub. Hopefully low lighting. I think it looks ok will have to ask my ds 18 who is coming with me. If he refuses to go out with me then will have a rethink! Skinny jeans and heels tho defo.

AgeingFop · 16/06/2012 06:43

If DS doesn't like it - definitely wear it Grin - these DCs need to know their place!

Seriously, sounds fine to me - if you like it, wear it.

mathanxiety · 16/06/2012 06:56

It would make me look and feel ridiculous. But that's just me. And I am talking abut the boob tube. Rest sounds nice.

SpringGoddess · 16/06/2012 07:44

I wouldn't wear a boob tube - but I have generous norms so maybe that is closing my thinking. I guess small norks, good arms and shoulders and accessories that make it look slightly edgy rather than slightly hooker - ish could tip the balance.

holstenlips · 16/06/2012 07:57

I hadnt even thought about hookerish. My problem.is i never go out socially. I just wear boob tubes round the house and feel cool and comfy in them! Im really really nervous about going out and being in a packed pub :-(
i might have to rethink outfit and i.wish i.didnt have to go but i cant cancel now as i promised to go which i never do.
Right skinny jeans and ...what?

ujjayi · 16/06/2012 08:05

I am 41 and a similar size to you and I would wear it. I would either team with a fab necklace which will shift the emphasis from your strapless top to your jewellery.

As long as it fits and you are not spilling out or over it (the back-fat women get when they squeeze into something too tight) then you won't look mutton. Plus, you weren't teaming it with a skin tight mini and 5" heels!

I think women need to rethink the whole mutton issue because the truth is we are looking and feeling younger and fitter than previous generations.

ujjayi · 16/06/2012 08:07

Oh and I don't think your outfit sounds remotely "hooker-ish".

holstenlips · 16/06/2012 08:41

Thank you. It is a sort of rock-y event with bands and stuff so have to look vaguely dressed up i guess. I will look for a necklace and earrings.
Or maybe a vest type top? I dont think i have back fat im slim but i suppose not completely toned.
I must stop being such a wuss its supposed to be a fun night out for me and ds!

OP posts:
ujjayi · 16/06/2012 09:49

Yes do try and relax and enjoy it. You have no mutton worries. FFS, there are plenty of teens and 20s who wear stuff they really shouldn't and look far more tragic than a slim 40 something in an event appropriate outfit. You are going to a gig in a pub. Your outfit sounds perfect. Really.

Now, go find a statement necklace. If you don't have one already then try H&M or Top Shop. You want something that sits just above your top.

SpringGoddess · 16/06/2012 13:05

My opinion on boob tubes was not limited to woman over 40, I would think the same of a 20 year old wearing one - they can very easily look tarty on any age!

mathanxiety · 16/06/2012 16:47

Vest top sounds nice or maybe something a bit fancier along the same lines..

mslucy · 16/06/2012 22:23

wear what you like
I'm a similar age and size to you and wear what ever I feel like
sometimes tight, sometimes baggy - depends on my mood (and the weather)
I'm sure you'll look great - go for it
