Or so suggested a conversation at the nail bar yesterday.
I am the only fule who leaves them at her waist.
We must be like walking sausage casing!

I couldn't get tights up there without some sort of winch, but then I struggle with tights anyway as they're sized for being tall or plus size, you're clearly supposed to be thin if you're tall...

Rabid · 14/06/2012 08:41

Well it all started as I was moaning. Ine had fallen down all day. "oh everyone pulls them right up to under their bras" it seems.

I can't get them past my waist, they're never long enough.

LtheWife · 14/06/2012 09:12

I guess it depends how tall you are/how long your legs are. Im only 5'5" but if I buy according to the size guide I'm lucky if I can get them to sit any higher than my hips, the legs are so short that my legs feel spring loaded and the crotch ends up near my knees within moments of putting them on.

If I size up then I can get the waist band as far as my belly button and don't have to do too much hoiking up through the day. If I size up again then they will just reach my bra band but they're too loose so don't stay up.

DonkeyTeapot · 14/06/2012 09:16

I only pull my tights up to my waist. Maybe I'm doing it wrong? I don't find they come down as such, the whole gusset / top section seems to stay put, but the legs slide down a bit. So I kind of have to pinch them around knee level and pull that bit back up, IYKWIM.

Thistledew · 14/06/2012 09:20

Your high waist is the narrowest part of your torso, usually just below your ribcage. Your waist is about 2 1/2 inches below that. Because most trousers are styled to have the 'waist' band on your hips, there seems to be a general confusion as to where our waists are now.

If you are pulling your tights no higher than your hips, it is not surprising they are falling down. Try a larger size so that they can go up to your actual waist, as they are designed to do.

wheelycote · 14/06/2012 09:22

Over tummy definately

Krumbum · 14/06/2012 09:34

Don't you get muffin top/wrinkly tight hips? Over the tum def

GnocchiNineDoors · 14/06/2012 09:42

I like my tights up to my armpits bra as this smoothes everything out. I already have that line where my knickers sit so I dont want another line where my tights sit.

I still wear my maternity tights 6months post birth as they are loooong and go well over my tummy with give if I am going out for a meal

MistyRocks · 14/06/2012 09:47

ooh i hate wearing tights for this very reason

i hate wearing stuff over my belly button

i think someone should invent ones that can be worn only as high as normal pants, basically, hipster tights

MirandaWest · 14/06/2012 09:48

Mine come up to my waist but that is above my tummy. I wouldn't have them covering my chest as that would feel odd. Am 5 foot 4 and usually get medium due to fat arse issues Grin

AbsofAwesomeness · 14/06/2012 09:49

Of course you wear them almost up to your boobs - it's like very cheap spanx.

CuttedUpPear · 14/06/2012 09:49

I was brought up with the rule always to wear two pairs of knickers when wearing tights.

One pair underneath
One pair on top to keep the tights up

And another pair on top of those in case you meet your friend who didn't remember to wear two pairs of knickers
Grin
Works for me

BreakOutTheKaraoke · 14/06/2012 09:53

Same here CuttedUpPear! I even have designated 'on top of tights' knickers in my drawer!

GnocchiNineDoors · 14/06/2012 09:53

Yiu could wear stockings?

DonkeyTeapot · 14/06/2012 10:30

My mum does the two-pairs-of-knickers thing too, and tried to get me to do the same thing, but I always found it horribly uncomfortable.

Once, when I was very small, we'd had PE at school and the teacher obviously thought I just didn't know how to dress myself. When my mum picked me up the teacher took her aside and said "Donkey seems to think she has to wear knickers over her tights, I don't know where she's got that idea, ha ha!" My mum then said "Oh no, I do it too, it stops them falling down!" Cue total embarrassment from me and utter confusion from my teacher. I'm sure she went home thinking "I've heard it all now."

Rabid · 14/06/2012 10:51

you must ened up with thrush with three layers over your arse.
my tights finish at the waistband of my skirt

you are all odd

dexter73 · 14/06/2012 11:01

I don't pull them up - they end at about my belly button.

ShowOfHands · 14/06/2012 11:07

I have a really short body. Tights go up to my bra. Has a rather pleasing smoothing and also warming effect.

StellaAndFries · 14/06/2012 11:14

I wear tights (and shape wear knickers most of the time) both right up to my bra. I have a short body.

toffeefee · 14/06/2012 14:16

I hate the tight band round my waist, so I fold the waist down and make them into hipsters! Much more comfortable.

I also used to wear a pair of pants over my tights, but didn't we do that because tights didn't used to have much/any lycra in them, so they didn't keep their shape as well and would fall down? My DD's tights don't fall down like mine used to!

JarethTheGoblinKing · 14/06/2012 14:23

I'm going to start buying tights for tall people so I can pull them up extra high. Why have I not thought of this before? Grin

JarethTheGoblinKing · 14/06/2012 14:24

""Donkey seems to think she has to wear knickers over her tights"

Grin

Wonderful mental image there!
