Please, I beg of you, help me find a wedding outfit!!

I am so totally useless at this so am throwing myself at your feet in supplication.

I have a wedding to go to in September and want to look elegant/classy/posh/well-put-together instead of sort of thrown together.
I know enough to know that I want something knee length, not too tight and comfy. Not strapless. Ummm... I think that's as far as I've got.

I'm 5'8", hourglass size twelve with slightly rebellious thighs. Blonde, if that's useful info. The invitation says formal, but is a civil ceremony in a 'posh' hotel. There is also to be an aghd? ceremony (Persian)- I don't know if there are any rules on what I should cover up? Do I need a hat? (I have a peculiarly small head which usually makes finding hats that fit difficult)

Budget- I dunno, around a couple of hundred for everything (shoes, bag dress, hat-if-necessary.)

I did like the look of this, but honestly can't tell if it looks cheap (fabric-wise?) or if it's bleugh. Total honesty is good.

Many grovelly thanks for any help Grin

The lady V dress looks good but would a lower neckline not flatter the norkage more? Not talking cleavage-ahoy just not quite so high. The 50s shape is very flattering though. Do you have time to order and return if you don't like the fabric - it sounds like good quality.

The black and white version or the lower necked navy and white one would be much easier to accessories than the mocha.

Do you want to wear a hat and (if so) how do you feel a bout a pill box? There a a lot on headbands ATM which should avoid the head size problem. Pill box hats look fab with the 50s style.

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 13/06/2012 12:58

potentially with the B&W dress?
with the navy? red shoes and white bag?

Shodan · 13/06/2012 13:06

Grin I don't have fabulous norkage to show off, PAMM, so not really a bother. What I do have, though, is very broad shoulders which probably excludes any kind of cap sleeve thing.

I do like the black and white- is that an ok colour scheme for a wedding though? Better than the mocha?

I think I may skip the hat thing altogether and I really don't like fascinators (sorry, should've said that originally)- would a fancy hairdo be ok?

with the B&W? too bold?

this could work with any og them

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 13/06/2012 13:10

x posts

fascinators are crap, yes, quite agree! Black and white with bright accories is absolutely fine, yes.

Shodan · 13/06/2012 13:14

Right. So I have a starting point. Thank you so much.

What kind of shoes, though? Closed in? Or is it ok to wear strappy? DH is wearing a kilt (Buchanan tartan), so it might be nice to go with one of the coulours in that for accessories, maybe. (Not shoes, though, yes?)

Sorry for all the qs but you are doing me a Great Service Grin

I'm wide of shoulder too and usually have to avoid cap sleeves - they do sometimes work with a full skirt but if you can carry off the Hepburn cut I'd say go for it!

How about red stilletos, white shawl and black or maybe spotty clutch?

Bit vintagy up do - this isn't the one I was looking for but it's sweet. There are plenty on line. Maybe with a red flower corsage in there too?

I'd add a red waist-cincher belt but go for black peep toe shoes (as am ever the practical and black could be worn again many times over).

These black peep toes are fab (I have the navy) and they are on sale too, so bargainous.

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 13/06/2012 13:34

Oooh, they are lovely! I quite agree Grin

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 13/06/2012 13:37

this is my new favourite, with this bag and these shoes.
Not cheap - but may provide some inspiration.

Shodan · 13/06/2012 14:05

Oh those peep toes are gorgeous, Gnocchi!

Deffo think I'll have my hair up, PAMM- I might just go the whole hog and go to the hairdresser for it too. (throws caution to the winds) I think I could be persuaded into having some kind of hair ornament too.

I am now getting quite excited. Thank you all so much for your help. DH is going to look so splendid in his outfit that I don't want to let the side down... (I think I'm just as excited to be getting his kilt as I am to be getting my own stuff tbh Blush )
