quirky mother of the bride outfit?

My mum needs an outfit for my sister's wedding, which is in November in New Zealand, so springtime. She is possibly a bit eccentric quite arty and wants something quirky and a bit different.

We've had a bit of a shop and she adored <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=dries+van+noten+spring+2012&hl=en&client=safari&sa=X&rls=en&biw=1280&bih=664&tbm=isch&prmd=imvnso&tbnid=dIKUncv3pfmPEM:&imgrefurl=www.elle.com/Runway/Ready-to-Wear/Spring-2012-RTW/DRIES-VAN-NOTEN/DRIES-VAN-NOTEN/(imageIndex)/18&docid=J8rIcuhuBNACBM&imgurl=www.elle.com/var/ezflow_site/storage/images/elle/runway/ready-to-wear/spring-2012-rtw/dries-van-noten/dries-van-noten/dries-van-noten-spring-2012-ready-to-wear-collection/dries-van-noten-spring-2012-rtw-podium-019/7277928-1-eng-US/DRIES-VAN-NOTEN-SPRING-2012-RTW-PODIUM-019_runway.jpg&w=516&h=774&ei=TGHYT4UFha7xA8HgibMD&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=562&vpy=4&dur=2832&hovh=275&hovw=183&tx=108&ty=115&sig=104213448526701182228&page=2&tbnh=134&tbnw=86&start=22&ndsp=33&ved=1t:429,r:28,s:22,i:230" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this Dries Van Noten dress. She loves the shape, and she did look great in it, but I thought it wasn't right for the wedding. I think the shape looks like she's trying to hide her figure.

She also loved one similar to <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=dries+van+noten+spring+2012&um=1&hl=en&client=safari&sa=N&rls=en&biw=1280&bih=664&tbm=isch&tbnid=ZMiwGQctjINefM:&imgrefurl=www.vogue.com/collections/spring-2012-rtw/dries-van-noten/review/&docid=OXIK8m5-s_3vAM&imgurl=media.vogue.com/files/filecheck/2011/09/28/dries-van-noten-rtw-spring2012-runway-036_145457452524.jpg_article_singleimage.jpg&w=332&h=475&ei=3GLYT-_ENoqA8wPF9PG8Aw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=176&vpy=123&dur=854&hovh=269&hovw=188&tx=116&ty=146&sig=104213448526701182228&page=1&tbnh=157&tbnw=100&start=0&ndsp=22&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0,i:72" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this. Not that one exactly, that shape but mainly black/grey and different but similar print, but at £450 in the sale, not enough to push her budget that far.

She's 66, 5'4'', size 10-12 on the bottom and 12-14 on top.

I think the ideal dress would be something more fitted, with a print, some bold colour and just a bit unusual. Any suggestions? Budget £300, £400 at a push. Thanks!

How about a version of this? Probably not in that fabric - for some reason they like to show the least attractive of their many fab prints as samples.

vivien of holloway has some excellent quirky dresses too.

Or maybe a VW anglomania dress. They're pretty much all stunning...

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 13/06/2012 11:07

Eh - thought I'd liked to this as a prime candidate from anglomania...

or this
over budget loveliness

Not sure about the 50s style shape for mum, she tried that shape on and it didn't do anything for her really.

Vivienne Westwood exactly the sort of thing though, will go and have a browse!

Ooo, thanks Procrastination, those are perfect. I love the navy and red one. Am going to phone her now!
