Best nail top coat?

nomoreminibreaks · 11/06/2012 23:17

Which is it please?

I have Seche Vite but it says on the bottle that it 'is proved [in the US] to cause birth defects'.

Yikes! There is the slightest chance I could be pregnant so I'm not going near the stuff.

Are there any other good ones out there? My nail polish only ever seems to last a couple of days at the most...

Seche is amazing, don't eat it and you'll be fine! Other good ones are Sally Hansen insta dri and china glaze fast forward.

boringnamechange · 11/06/2012 23:57

It actually says that on the bottle?????
That's what I was going to suggest as I have just got it and I'm seriously in love with it.......off to read the small print.

MrsBovary · 12/06/2012 00:10

Really? Seche Vite is the only one I use.

Whitershadeofpale · 12/06/2012 00:20

Seche vite is the best but nails inc caviar top coat comes second IMO.

curiositykilledthekat · 12/06/2012 11:43

Nails Inc caviar top coat is brilliant, it also dries nails rock hard in 30 seconds. But to be honest I have nothing to compare with as it's the only one I use. I would like to try seche vite but heard it goes gloopy very quickly. Any seche vite users find this happens?

MsOliveOyl · 12/06/2012 12:30

Nails Inc kensington caviar or Albert bridge - do the same thing as Seche Vite without going gloopy before you've even finished half the bootle.

OPI Rapid Dry is the boy for me!

southlundon · 12/06/2012 12:39

I bought this recently as I had heard that it did just a good a job as sechce vite but without the formaldehyde etc in it.

I have to say I've found it excellent so far (I've had it 2 months). After the second coat of varnish I apply this straight away. It dries really quickly and really is rock hard in ten mins. Now I know that might not be the fastest on the market, but for a product that has none of the really nasty ingredients I am impressed.

I painted my nail s red, white and blue for the Jubilee and they lasted over a week with barely any wear on the tips (IYKWIM).

sedgieloo · 12/06/2012 13:01

I don't use seche vite when pregnant for that reason. Its a great pregnant although I find it goes thick quickly and I need to use their thinner before ending the bottle. I use Nails Inc caviar top coat is brilliant if expensive for the tiny bottle. But it does not go thick or wrinkle as seche vite can, the same goes for the China Glaze topcoat you can get in Sally's. Also safer and very good is sally hansen Super Shine top coat, which I have picked up in poundland. Anything you buy in the UK should be free of toulene and formaldehyde and the other nasty one (forgotten the name!) because of EU directive on use of these chemicals in cosmetics a few years back.

sedgieloo · 12/06/2012 13:02

ignore word 'pregnant' in my second sentence above, not sure where it came from!!

The3Bears · 12/06/2012 13:06

Ive been using this and am pregnant, going to check the bottle. I dont chew my nails though.

sedgieloo · 12/06/2012 13:52

Its the fumes too, try not to use it if you can, dodgy ingredient is toulene, I've bought mine from the US and it carries the warning not sure if the UK formula is different it might be.

The3Bears · 12/06/2012 14:00

I have been painting my nails in a well ventilated room anyway but have seen the message on the bottle so took it of my nails and wont use it now, have only used it 3 times so far as only got it a couple of weeks ago. Now im panicing though.

swooosh · 12/06/2012 17:15

I vote Seche!

Krumbum · 12/06/2012 22:49

Nail bloggers say poshe is as good as seche but it doesn't go gloopy and has no toluene I believe. I've not used because its only sold in the USA but heard very good things. I think if you buy it off eBay from America it's about the same price as seche.

Krumbum · 12/06/2012 23:02

I wish I were less poor, I'm running out of my latest china glaze fast forward and all the good top coats are so pricey!

nomoreminibreaks · 13/06/2012 09:47

Bought a nails inc duo from boots for £12ish with Kensington caviar base coat and top coat. Seems to be holding well so far - now if only the nail polish I used hadn't turned out to be neon orange rather than a pale apricot colour...
