Tell me about mineral makeup

I usually have pretty good skin. But at the moment I am pregnant and spotty and a bit greasy. Usually I use Garnier BB cream but it's a bit shiny for me at the moment. I saw an ad for "Sheercover" on the telly, but it seems so ££££. Anyone using something similar which is more reasonable (ideally available from a big Boots as I get a discount!)? Also, can I use my normal powder blusher on top?

I can't get away with mineral make up, it just seems to sit on my skin, then starts clumping together. I tried Sheer Cover but it was really obvious that I had it on, whereas with my usual Clinique powder & concealer, you can't tell I'm wearing it. I went for a make-up trial for my wedding and she used Bare Escentuals (I think that's how you spell it) and it looked awful. When it came to taking off the eye make-up it was. Coming away in gritty flakes and removing it was actually a bit painful! My skin is combination, so not too unusual. You might be wise to find a mineral brand in a department store and either ask for a makeover or a few samples, rather than shelling out for something that you end up not liking. Mineral make up seems to be a live it or hate it thing.

Obviously that should be 'love it or hate it' x

I tried it, but decided it made my already huge pores look even bigger. I do like the rose radiance face colour from Bare essencuals and their translucent powder though

I use l'Oreal's mineral make-up. It's quite cheap and lasts ages.

Hi Bonzo- I'm currently 26 weeks' pregnant. my skin is a bit spotty and oily too. I have given up on mineral powder foundation- I found it made my pores look huge and didn't actually keep it matte all day. May i recommend Dior? I am currently using the nude natural glow hydrating foundation and it is fab. i also use a dot of the MAC prep and prime SPF 50 or Benefit Porefessional underneath and it keeps my makeup looking fresh all day. The only powder foundation that I would rate is the Guerlain Parure, but is very expensive and doesn't last long. But, once i am flush again, I may have to buy another...

I really like Bare Minerals. I use a Laura Mercier Minerals primer underneath which deals with my pores. It does take 5 mins longer than other makeup though, partly because you need to start with thoroughly cleansed skin and give time for your moisturiser to settle in or it all goes wrong. I use By Terry foundation, Laura Mercier concealer & the Benefit yellow eye lid neutraliser when I'm in a rush / looking for a light coverage. Bare Minerals is all about the buffing though and I found it almost essential in mid pg when I wanted to look half decent (I'm 34 weeks pg btw) It does give a flawless look and lasts all day (& night)
