Is it bad luck to wear pearls to your wedding?

Or is that a load of boswallox? Because the only earrings I like have pearls in! (Though I spose they could be pearl-style beads...)

I wore a necklace of pearls on my wedding day, which were a gift from my husband-to-be. Just wear the earrings, if they make you feel lovely. I promise it really won't make a blind bit of difference to your 'luck' :) Enjoy your day x

I wore pearls, still going strong 15 years later with only the usual ups and downs.

Wear what you want and have a lovely day op Grin

Believing that wearing a particular item of jewellery will negatively affect your personal relationships is idiotic.

But pearls are lovely.

I wore pearl earrings, a pearl necklace and my handmade lace dress had a pale green silk undersheath. Very unlucky to wear green to your own wedding. Been married 21 years this year.

valiumredhead · 07/06/2012 15:48

Hope not! I wore pearl earrings and a pearl bracelet.

underthevalley · 07/06/2012 16:29

I thought it was tradition to wear pearls (as in someone gives you them- as a present) they are associated with weddings and have always been.

But if you marry in Pearl you will live in a whirl.

FreckledLeopard · 07/06/2012 16:30

I wore pearls and am getting divorced. But I suspect the pearls had little to do with it.

I wore a necklace with a pearl in it. We've just celebrated 10 years

bronze · 07/06/2012 16:32

Oh and my veil had (fake) pearls sewn on it

ooer · 07/06/2012 16:44

The saying is "pearls are for tears".

I wore mine anyway! Very happy.

WowOoo · 07/06/2012 17:42

I wore some - we're still happily togerther.
Hope you have a brilliant day. Congratulations!

I wore a pearl necklace, borrowed from my mum. Pearl earrings which were a present from DH and I wore green.
Just celebrated 17 years of marriage. Lots of heartache along the way, but I'm sure the pearls were not a contributing factor to our infertility and sudden death of my dad at a young age.

BackforGood · 07/06/2012 18:05

Never heard that. My sister wore pearls 22 yrs ago and is very happily married, and my Mum wore pearls 57 years ago and her and my Dad were happily married until she died. I always thought pearls were very traditional to wear as a bride.

HRHOliviaMumsnet · 07/06/2012 18:10

OOh congrats OP
Only thing I remember is that Anne of Green Gables said that Pearls were for tears...

galletti · 07/06/2012 18:14

Well I did, and marriage still going strong at 20 years!

notnowImreading · 07/06/2012 18:14

I wore my mum's pearl earrings for my wedding and lost one. So it was bad luck for mum. Happiest day of my life though.

whackamole · 07/06/2012 18:47

I wore pearls at mine on Saturday!

weaselm4 · 07/06/2012 18:58

Wore my dear mum's pearls (she died 3 years before my wedding). We'll clock up 8 years on Tuesday and I wouldn't swap 'im for anyone!

Pearls look great with a wedding dress IMO. Enjoy your day!
