How to wear a brooch?

ZuleikaJambiere · 07/06/2012 12:04

My Mum has given me one of my late Grannie's brooches. It is silver and an abstract, spiky short of shape (she thinks it might be a Georg Jensen one).

I don't just want to keep it on my dressing table, I want to wear it and love it - I have dreams of becoming a brooch lady (people will say 'you know Zukeika, the one with the beautiful brooch' ... maybe). So tell me how to wear it, what to wear it with, so I can become that brooch lady.

Thanks

So jealous. I love Georg Jensen.
His hallmark is a small GJ. Have a look, some of the older pieces are worth a fortune!

I wear a lot of brooches. I wear my Georg Jensen's on lapels of blazers, to fix scarves and also recently as a mock hat pin.

I get more wear out of brooches during the winter when you have more layers to pin!

Lucky lucky you!

As a hat pin is a good idea, I love hats and have a variety. I also do scarves - would I be better off with a plain scarf, rather than patterned, to show it off?

I've had a peek at the back and there's no GJ, but it does say Georg Jensen Denmark, and I've found it on tinternet - so it could be real, or it's a good copy. Either way, it's beautiful and I'll enjoy wearing it Smile

If it says Georg Jensen Denmark I reckon you'll be alright!

I wear plain coloured scarves with mine, or animal print. There's no rules. It's so stylish you could wear it with a tracksuit and it would still look amazing Wink

I can't wait - I'm planning tomorrow's outfit around it already (even though I'll only be going as far as the village shop/playground!)

Sounds gorgeous. I look horrendous with brooches pinned to me (huge norks) so I sometimes pin to a bag. Also seen them used to decorate a wrap cardie.

ZuleikaJambiere · 08/06/2012 13:22

I knew that my 'petite' norks would come in handy one day! Wrap cardi and bags are good ideas too, thanks. This is all great, as all of the suggestions you've come up with, I have already, so no need for a costly shopping spree.

Just about to give it it's first public outing - I bet no one sees it from under their umbrellas!,

I have inbetweeny boobs so they look a bit silly on me, but I do love loads some on a handbag
I collect them to make a bouquet for my wedding

ZuleikaJambiere · 08/06/2012 19:17

That is the most lovely idea for a bouquet

Can we just get into the habit of carrying bouquets everywhere?

(How to spot a mumsnetter- Bouquet of flowers/shiny things at all times)

That would be fab! We could have a pom bear brooch and there would be no denying it :o
This is the kind of thing I was thinking of but worry would it make me look like Mrs Havisham?
And I could keep it forever, and it would look lovely forever :)

mrscumberbatch · 08/06/2012 20:48

phwoar

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 08/06/2012 20:54

fucking hell, they're dear! So glad I've hoarded carefully collected mine :o

mrscumberbatch · 08/06/2012 21:05

WOW. I never even thought to look at the prices.

Really!?!?!? £115 for the button one? £5 worth of buttons and some of the funny foamy florists stuff to stick them in? Huuuuge markup!

I'm in the wrong business clearly.

ZuleikaJambiere · 08/06/2012 21:41

Gorgeous, but despite being able to keep it forever, price per use isn't going to be great is it? Can't see you carrying it while walking the dog!

Pretty expensive game of fetch
