anyone want to help me find a top to go with a suit?

I've acquired a trouser suit, not current range so can't link. It is dark grey with a gold pin stripe. Gold is dull, not shiny/metallic. I'd really like a simple short sleeved top to go with it - preferably scoop or square neck, in that goldy/mustardy colour. Looked everywhere and can't find anything - in fact very few little tops like that around in any colour.

Also thinking of a burgundy/wine coloured top as I have some burgundy shoes which go well with the suit.

Anyone fancy helping me search?

thank you msarsebiscuit. First one - the yellow might be alright actually but (just realised I omitted to say) suit will mainly be worn for work, and I wouldn't wear anything that "strappy" for work - although I do really like that top anyway.

Phase 8 - like the style, would need to see if it's too shiny - I'd prefer a "dull" gold colour. bit like an egg yolk, rather than shiny, lurexy (for work)

Warehouse - again, like the top, wonder if it might be a bit bulky?

I feel awful when someone has taken the time and I can't say "Bingo, that's the one" - but actually I do like all those tops so "my kinda style" - just not quite right with this suit FOR WORK which I omitted to say. And will be worn for "smart" work occasions rather than just round the office day-to-day

Oh no don't worry about it, I'd just seen them when I was browsing HoF last night and thought you could do with a reply, especially as I'm trying to find something to wear under a suit ( a made to measure one from eBay - very impressed ) myself - although mine definitely isn't for work ( bit saucy ).

ah thanks. If you let me know what you are looking for, I can keep an eye out for you too. I need something in the next couple of weeks, might have to make do with a cream top I've already got, but not ideal

What's your made to measure suit like MsArsebiscuit and who did you get it from?

Msarsebiscuit · 04/06/2012 19:00

Onehand, it's this item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=350570892585. Fits brilliantly, the seller is really careful about finalising your measurements, my only reservation is that the buttonhole isn't finished off perfectly and the button is slightly cheap but even I can replace a button. I'm impressed enough to have ordered a dress and a pencil skirt from her last week.

V Nice! I shall investigate further.

I'm ALWAYS looking for tops to go under suits - I look awful in shirts and am a teacher so nothing stroppy or revealing... It's so DIFFICULT! It's like finding hens' teeth! I've had luck with phase eight and their sort of gypsy style tops which seem to suit me, but am always looking. I did get a mustard to in Monsoon recently but I don't think it's still there - ill check.

lilolilmanchester · 05/06/2012 12:49

thanks Knitknack - i know, it's really frustrating, even shops that sell suits don't always sell simple tops to go underneath... not sure what they expect you to wear with them!
