Mulberry Roxanne

I was lucky enough to be able to treat myself to one of these when they first came out a number of years ago. I used it every day for work and loved it. I shelved it when babies came along and I needed something I didn't mind shoving in the bottom of the pram/getting covered in juice spills/etc.

I'm returning to work later this year after a few years at home and need a smart work bag. Is the Roxanne the classic I thought it was when I bought it and has it stood the test of time? Or will it look dated? It's the oak colour if that makes a difference.

I'm so out of the loop fashion wise I've no idea.

I would still rate it as a classic and given how Mulberry has become even more popular I would defintately use it. Some people I think prefer the Roxy era to the current one.

frankie76 · 02/06/2012 15:30

Yes it's a classic

PropertyNightmare · 02/06/2012 15:57

Yes, the Roxanne is fashion old school. Definitely still an impressive, cool bag.

Itsgottabebags · 02/06/2012 15:59

....And everyone seems to be toting a homage to the Alexa.

PropertyNightmare · 02/06/2012 16:11

Mulberry are still using Roxy as inspiration for their new season collection. See the write up here for the double pocket drawstring bag:

...So your Roxanne will standout!

BuildersTea · 02/06/2012 19:12

That's really helpful ladies, thank you. One less thing I'll have to purchase!

Totally a classic!
I have saved and saved to buy a "new" mulberry, as in not one from the outlet in York. Guess what - they are all now so awful
I have managed to get a beautiful preloved Phoebe in Oak on eBay which I am in love with. It was £200 vs the £800Shock the new del ray is on for
So wear with pride, there will be many who wish they had had the foresight to buy your bag first time around !

suntodayplease · 03/06/2012 06:37

Glad you posted this thread! I've just dusted mine off (also Oak) after several years of sitting in my wardrobe. Didn't want to use it as a change bag. I actually love how it's aged. I think they look better used than when they are new. Had forgotten how heavy it gets though when you fill it, but it's worth it. Enjoy using it again! Def a classic.

BuildersTea · 03/06/2012 08:39

I had a quick look at the Mulberry website last night out of pure curiosity. The style is so different from when I was looking to buy and the prices have shot up! I think I payed around £450 for my Roxanne brand new from the store, bags of similar size now seem around the £800 mark Shock

Thanks so much for the input everyone, and suntodayplease I hope you continue to enjoy your Roxy's renaissance too :)

that blogger - does my bum look forty in this - she has a roxanne, and wears it a lot.

I also think some of the older mulberries are much much nicer than the newer ones (some of them are a bit bling for my taste)

I bought a vintage mulberry on ebay last week too - a style it's very hard to find now - called Geena in black suede/leather - really wonderful condition, and less than 200. (authenticated by the purse forum first) I am really pleased with it!

hiviolet · 03/06/2012 09:36

Definitely a classic. There's nothing about it that can date, IMO.

Call me biased but I have one too, in chocolate! I was very sad when they discontinued them, not that I could have afforded another with the price rises.

Itsgottabebags · 03/06/2012 13:06

YY the price rises are Shock I was just looking at a small handbag today in a magazine which is a special jubilee edition. It was nearing 600 quid.

Itsgottabebags · 03/06/2012 14:07

Here is a Roxy (preloved) wish I could buy it myself..

Roxy I think there a special discount if you buy over the Jubilee period

BrandyAlexander · 03/06/2012 16:53

Use it! Use it! I would have loved a Roxanne but couldn't afford one when they were being sold. I am gutted that they were discontinued as I think it was Mulberry's best bag by far and that the others aren't as good.

kittysaysmiaow · 03/06/2012 18:48

I use my roxanne for work, been using it for years. I still lurve it even though it weighs a ton!
