Who's had their colours done & is happy with the result ?

I had mine down 3 years ago. I have dark brown haor, dark brown eyes, pale skin & medium brown eye brows.

I was 'diagnosed' as a deep autumn. However, I find these colours really quite drab on me - I'm a bit of a bright pink/lilac person. Have ditched the pale blue because I can see that really drains me, but I can't get to grips with the colour palette given to me. Yes sad I know, but all confidence is lost & I need help !

sister did ages ago and has same colouring as you .. don't know what season she is but she was advised to wear bright reds and plums and chocolates ... she's looked excellent ever since

purpleturtle · 20/02/2006 20:30

I'm a bright spring, and now wear coral, peach and lime. I always get nice comments. I used to wear all sorts of shades of purple, some of which are okay, most of which aren't. I'm really pleased to have been told what suits me, as I realise now I was getting it wrong.

Do you think you need to go again, mojomummy? Maybe your consultant had a bad day - or was just a bad consultant?

mojomummy · 20/02/2006 20:34

Glad to hear of positive experiences. Perhaps I just got unlucky, or my brown hair/eye combo confused her ?

Do you think it's a bit late to ring & query ?

Also, she put make up on me first & I always thought you were supposed to be barefaced ?

I'd love to have mine done, but would be phased if I was told to avoid colours I already like, or to start wearing something I don't.

Where do you get them done anyway?

mojomummy · 20/02/2006 20:44

just doing mad searches (all this prompted from feeling dowdy at 16 weeks pregnant, in need of new clothes & not knowing what looks nice anymore) on the web & found that lastminute are doing an offer. It's £91 for 1.5 hours. I had an offer through work & paid £48.

Here's a link to the colours I am supposed to be

deep autumn

I had mine done a few years ago too and am Winter which means I can wear plums, white, winter white, black, grey, acid blues/reds/yellows/greens and "ice" colours

I had mine done - nearly 9 years ago (frightening as it was for a 30th birthday present ) and I loved it and the colours definitely suit me better than what I was weraing.
I'm a light spring

I had a quick look through this last link. I can't really see that much of a difference between the various palettes. I mean IRL when you go shopping you wouldn't know exactly what shade a colour was and if it matched your palette, would you? I think I'm a Winter one but I notice I can wear all colours.

lucy5 · 20/02/2006 22:46

I had mine done about 10 years ago, I won it in a competition. I came out as Spring, pastels if I remember. Yeah right!

me me me! (in a Cod style)
Absolutely brilliant.

Am an Autumn but can't remember what type (brown hair, hazelly eyes), but my palette sounds very different to mojomummy's - browns, all sorts of greens, even yellowy ones that are pushing lime; greeny blues, orange, orangey reds and orangey pinks, and best of all, no black.

I had a wardrobe cull and can honestly say I look a hundred times better - I did keep my blue jeans and some forbidden grey and lilac tops, but wearing them with palette colours makes them much less harsh.

My top tip is to go to somewhere inexpensive (I did Asda and Dorothy Perkins) and try on a lot of basics in the new colours - buy a few and put them into your normal run of clothes.
I started with brown trousers (no-black rule), and teal, coral and orange tops - got lots of compliments and felt so sparky wearing them I had faith in the palette and gradually got jumpers, more trousers etc

Am now an utter convert and haven't worn black since December - loving it!

I like purple and all shades of pink, what if the colour analysis says I shouldn't wear them? Or I can wear any colours but of the right shade?

Does it change with your hair colour? My natural hair is brown but I dye it from red to black, occasionally blonde highlights.

It sounds intersting but I don't quite see how it works.

MrsBadger · 21/02/2006 10:11

I think it's more to do with your skin tone than hair etc - if the colour you dye your hair looks good, it's because it suits your skin tone.

The palettes are similar in that they all contain some reds some blues etc, but the differences in tone are quite important.
It's like lipsticks all look pinky-red but some look great on and others look ghastly. Ditto foundation - small colour difference in tube makes huge difference how it looks on face.

There is some fine-tuning though - the back of the Autumn palette the woman gave me is covered in notes - some of the colours just don't suit me as well as others - the wussy lilac second from bottom left here looks shocking near my face, ditto anything that's too grey.

For the first few shopping trips you take the palette and look like a loon holding it up against things, but you do get your eye in and can tell at a glance if a colour is right or not.

Cristina7 · 21/02/2006 10:47

That makes sense to me now. I understand the comparison with lipstick and foundation. (Nice explanation, MrsB, are you a teacher?)
