I'd suggest macaroons but not sure what her diet is like.

My Matches dresses are this and this. Will keep them both, I think.

Any opinions on fluoro satchels - have they had their day already?

MidnightinMoscow · 11/06/2012 16:01

Ollie, Radiotherapy for the Thyroid can cause problems with dry mouth/taste changes. Some lovely sweets and cordials would be great as well as some good lip balm.

Meant to say to Amber, poor you about your skin? Could be a reaction to the antibiotics...I would suggest taking a pro-biotic in the form of actimel, just to sort your normal flora out.

Hope you are ok SE.

MidnightinMoscow · 11/06/2012 16:03

Oh, lovely dresses Dona. I like the satchels, but I am not sure how much use one would be given this dreadful summer we are having.

blue2711 · 11/06/2012 16:04

How nice of you ollie. What about new lipstick / nail varnish if she likes that sort of thing? Or could you download some music / programmes onto her iPod or iPad or buy a cd?

Great dresses dona.

Hopefully · 11/06/2012 16:11

SE hope your house is still standing and not waterlogged! DH back from work, thankfully.

Dona I have toyed with a fluoro satchel, but decided I'd probably hate it next year.

AmberNectarine · 11/06/2012 16:39

Dona I've got my beloved Raoul as my nod to the neon satchel trend. A little more enduring, I hope...

notyummy · 11/06/2012 16:41

Fingers crossed that the water stops rising SE. Met office seemed to think it would be terrible in London but I am in central London at the moment and it seems no more than damp tbh. My folks in Hampshire were saying how terrible it was there this morning though.

Ollie- what a lovely idea. Could you include a voucher for a beauty place so she has something to look forward to?

Sartorial dilemma for you.... What to wear to enormous (Uk's biggest..) commercial farming show. Which is being held in a field. In the rain Hmm. I need to be able to go straight to a Board meeting afterwards. Help! I am thinking it has to be trousers of some sort. Can have a change of footwear in the car.

blossoming · 11/06/2012 16:48

That lovely knee length dress you used to have on your profile photos notyummy, with some wellies, and heels packed away.

Thinking of you se. Glad you're still smiling. Has been surprisingly dry here today, and warm in the sunshine. DH in London without a coat though.

Grrrr, DH is being mucked about by potential employers. He is getting to the point of withdrawing his application. Definitely found that employers feel more able to call all the shots in current economic situation, but neither DH or I are prepared to play that game (and luckily I don't even have to try thanks to being self employed).

everything hope you're doing OK - sounds like you are in good spirits, not fun. get the bits of furniture you particularly don't like near the door [gallow humour emoticon]

DonaAna · 11/06/2012 17:01

Notyummy, I'd wear trousers and a bright, stylish raincoat and killer wellingtons (I have a pair of tall brown Aigle rubber riding boots). Although I live in Rome now, I'm Scandinavian, and trust me, I know rain.

Amber thanks for fluoro enabling. I'm also not sure whether I'd love it next year but I'm still thinking about them. Satchel just like that was my favorite bag shape when I was about 15, I found it very practical.

What I really need is a bag for my phone and keys when I exercise (yes, I know most use black neoprene ones, but I can't get excited about them). I'm thinking about this. Romans really dress up when they go jogging. I've seen a Louis Vuitton fanny pack (not
the pirate version) and old ladies kitted out in white linen suits "exercising" in our local park. The scruffiest joggers wear something carefully deconstructed - such as a T-shirt from the Venice or Cannes film festivals or some posh hotel on a faraway island... What do you stylish lot wear when jogging or walking?

notyummy · 11/06/2012 17:01

Confession time- I don't have any wellies!! I do have big black boots (kind of like walking boots) that have a neoprene lining though. I think that I would struggle to wear them with a dress (although I can see a dress and wellies more actually.) I do have a fairly old trouser suit with fitted dark trousers that could work tucked into flat ankle boots as SE suggests. And I have a black belted trench. Could be workable.

ollie i have to put in a really practical comment(not s&b at all) for your friend. If she does have a drier mouth with the radiotherapy the last thing she needs is to find she gets new cavities- so from a purely sensible point of view along with all the lovely gifts in your box put in some fluoride mouthwash! And ?? using a higher fluoride toothpaste! V v boring and practical i know!

AmberNectarine · 11/06/2012 17:12

Agree with SE and my Hunters are super comfy!

FritziGreenEyes · 11/06/2012 17:23

ollie So sorry to hear about your friend Sad. How about a nice pair of cashmere socks or maybe for a future date nice comfy blanket and DVD set? Although it probably doesn't matter what you get her, it will be comforting to know that people are thinking about her and not avoiding her.

DonaAna · 11/06/2012 17:24

Notummy, buy some stylish wellies. My olive-colored short Ilse Jacobsens are lovely with jeans or trousers and also work well in winter. The brown Aigle riding boots are very snug-fitting and work well with dresses.
