Is anyone else here a Classic stylewise? Just like Annie, I'm gravitating towards simpler and more streamlined clothes these days. I feel best in fairly simple monochrome dresses and like clean lines (my Summer coloring limits the choices somewhat). This means my look is becoming more conservative - am I the only one?

This is my idea of great wardrobe basics (stylewise - prices way too high obviously):

Silly really I didn't add the two together. I really wanted to come, feel a bit cross (not with anyone, just me!) for planning so far in advance and then falling on the wrong day.

It'll be ok. I'll be happy when we have that first glass of champagne somewhere nice!

Thanks too Annie x

Hi Dona, I think I am still a bit sort of unkempt but tend to spend more these days. I still like colour but cannot do fussy or drapes, cowl neck type stuff at all.

I really like solid good colour. But mostly tend to stick to designers I feel comfortable with.

I notice amongst my friends they have a strong style, so one that wears loads of prints and looks good. Another that wears monochrome mostly. It really suits their personalities. (stylist, and Parisian)

I love the long game, so over time it becomes clearer what people wear and like and it matches who they are, rather than immediate (through badging or logos I guess).

MarshaBrady · 09/06/2012 11:32

Yes I'd love that Annie. We'd need to twist our dh's arms. But would be fun!

AmberNectarine · 09/06/2012 11:39

First outing for mini-MaxMara today, very small and light, love it! Am wearing with mid blue 910s, tan suede New Look Dicker copies, white Vince vest, new grey marl Demylee cardi and a blue ombré effect jersey scarf.

I love sales season. I like to think I'm a pretty good sales shopper, though I do get carried away!

Back later with less me, me, me.

Quick question for those who have had style days - do you think your style is also reflected in your interior design preferences? I am looking through lots of interior magazines and keep being reminded of styles - so I admire dramatic, but it isn't really me, I can't relate to traditional romantic at all, and I'm drawn to natural but it needs something else to lift it out of bland. All things I also think when it comes to clothes. And if so, what on earth would a gamine interior look like (my best guess is that I'm a natural gamine style wise).

AmberNectarine · 09/06/2012 12:49

See now I just cannot do tailoring. I feel like an imposter. I am a relaxed drapey layers kinda girl. For any formal occasion or work I wear fitted jersey dresses. God knows what I'll wear when I RTW as I haven't been working and not pregnant since early 2009, so my work clothes are about 4 years out of date! Am considering an all dress work wardrobe as less faffing than separates, and I am already panicking about how early I will have to get up to get myself and the children washed, dressed, fed, to nursery and be at my desk by 8.45... Was hard enough with the one!!

ny and annie how lovely you had your mini MU! I was sad to miss it, but my germs really didn't need spreading! Shame about the wind though.

mim outfit sounds lovely, and good top Wink enjoy your day!

Agree hopefully sounds very wise! If we ever do manage the country house MU being mooted at one point, she and SE should style define us all (for a fee obvs) and then we could do a mass swap of unsuitable items. It would be like Gok but with less wide belts and grabbing of bangers.

AmberNectarine · 09/06/2012 12:51

Ooh question for medical types I.e. mim, looby - my skin has gone crazy since I've been ill, taken on an odd bumpy, almost scaly quality and now blotchy blistery patches are erupting. Why can I do to restore it to normal?!

ApuskiMcClusky · 09/06/2012 12:53

Amber, I'm exactly the same re tailoring, I really hate wearing work jackets or crepe dresses - I am on a constant search for smart-enough jersey work dresses, that I can chuck a cardigan over. Jersey blazers are about as formal as I can deal with. Luckily most of my work places have not been full-on formal dressing places, though I did have a brief power suit moment as a consultant in my twenties, but really was just playing dress-up!

MarshaBrady · 09/06/2012 13:18

Yes to a good discount Annie!

I haven't done a style day Apuski, but yes I think my taste is aligned to the clothes I wear. (Georgian plus contemporary).

Portia4 · 09/06/2012 13:33

Annie I too, wear blazers a lot more casually than I used too, but I also wear jeans and heels on occasions where I would have dressed up more, I guess both wardrobes have started to merge.

I am loving all the sales links, I too would like a pair of leather trousers, I think that I will get the black version of the oxblood ASOS leather trews that I got at Christmas. I would also like a black blazer.

Mim you certainly seem to have got your style mojo back. Amber I hope that you are feeling lots better.

How did your hot date go bloss? What did you wear in the end?

Loved hopefully's style tips and big yes from me to country house MU and style day! Loving hearing all your ideas about what is 'you'; it's fascinating and I'm a little in awe at how confident you all seem, even the 'undiagonosed' ones! I have definitely learnt lots just from being on this thread and I feeling more and more brave and happy in my choices as I get further into my 30s and actually being a SAHM has helped too. I know the common view is how hard it is to dress nicely and being a mum but I don't find it so, much easier to dress to please oneself rather than a work dress code!

But yet I still have NO idea what on earth my personality can be. I fear I'm too swayed by passing trends to be consistent (ie the passionate embracing of coloured skinnies!). I love: blazers, skinny fitting jeans / trousers / skirts / dresses, stripes, leopard print (but little other print), lace, broderie anglais, white and cream. Feminine details but simple shapes. Nothing draped or flouncey; hate a cowl neck. Nothing quirky. Aim for sophisticated, glam, elegant but like a bit of an edge sometimes.

Any ideas??

blue2711 · 09/06/2012 15:38

Thanks for the kind wishes re. my dear friend's mum. Cancer is so cruel and it has happened so fast. I am struggling with the right words but doing lots of listening and letting her cry on me. I just want to be the very best friend and support I can.

Off to a strange sounding Luminarium exhibit at Nottm university arts centre and then a quick drink, DC permitting. Just in the mood for a very quiet, family weekend.

So glad ny and annie managed the meet up.

I really like that dress apuski. I disagree a little about getting bored of things like that, I actually tire of the so called classic safe options quicker. Or perhaps I'm just not very good at accessorising!

blue2711 · 09/06/2012 15:52

Exciting about your house apuski! We have plans afoot for a purchase and a project too. I can definitely imagine getting as passionate about design and decoration as I am about wardrobe planning!

dauphin so happy to hear about your DF's progress.

blue2711 · 09/06/2012 15:57

One last post! suburban loving your latest blog posts. You look fantastic in the Primark florals (and about 16!) and your no 7 tips are very useful. Keep up the good work Smile.

blossoming · 09/06/2012 16:18

I'm back! Had a lovely time thank you all. Sublime (in my best attire, in a gorgeous setting) to the ridiculous (coming home wet to my underwear with mud from head to foot after stopping off at the mountain bike place). I did wear the white co bandeau maxi, and my JC's. New boots lovely and comfortable despite the heel good for shopping after breakfast.

Sorry about your friend's mum blue. Maybe you're a romantic classic?

Could one of the helpful ladies on this thread please explain about the different "types" ie gamine etc and how it is worked out/decided what type someone is. It all sounds very interesting!
Have to compliment Russell and Bromley- no quibbles over returning my shoes. I do love good customer service.
