oh FOR GODS SAKE just take your bloody shorts/t shirt/burka whatever OFF

all sorts of ages and sizes of women were there lookign NICE - the ones who looked stupid were the ones hobbling to the sea in DRESSES ( oh yes and not religious based affairs)
really we are our own worst enemies

Oh and sequin bikinis make me feel hot just LOOKING at them. ANd get a cup that fits - no need for underboob

and lastly FRIGGING maxi sundresses sheesh ENOUGHT already

Noddy I've got a Kelly Kettle. It gives me hours of amusement. You can put anything in it; driftwood, dry seaweed etc. We usually find enough stuff on the beach to use.

TuftyFinch · 27/05/2012 18:19

I also take a big pop up tent for shade.

noddyholder · 27/05/2012 18:30

Off to look up kelly kettle!

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 27/05/2012 18:34

I can't believe you swam Shock The sea is fucking freezing at this time of year.

Maybe the maxi shorts wearers hadn't pruned their undergrowth?

I haven't

dexter73 · 27/05/2012 18:36

You are so right about not wanting people to be ashamed about their bodies. I always want to scream when I read a thread on here and a woman wants a shrug to cover up her arms as she has bingo wings. No-one cares! No-one is looking at your arms! If I am at a party I am having fun and am not going to look at your arms and think 'ooh, should have worn a shrug dear'. Let the bingo wings free to flap!

VivaLeBeaver · 27/05/2012 18:38

It's always too cold at the beach even on a scorching day to wear just a swimsuit/bikini. I can only think of one day since being over the age of 18 where it was warm enough to not need a fleece t-shirt due to the breeze and then I was at Studland so I took everything off!

ledkr · 27/05/2012 19:14

Id rather see someone suitably covered up than see their fat exposed in ill fitting bikinis.I speak as one who wore a tiny bikini until my 5th baby last year who ruined me Grin
Sorry but its people like you who make people cover up on the beach.
Do you look like jlo then?

MrsMikePeasbody · 27/05/2012 19:23

Lumbago! are you a chair yet?! I am still enjoying winging away after you and S helped me apply many years ago Smile

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/05/2012 19:59

Swimming in dresses = bonkers. Sequin bikinis = wtf?

I thought your OP was brilliant actually - apart from the maxi dress bit. I think some women do look nice in cotton maxi sundresses, providing they are not the ones that make norks look as if they are about to explode and providing they have straps and a subtle print. A woman at work (prob a size 18) looks lovely in them.

I wore a mini and bare legs to the park today (am usually a bit paranoid about white legs but dp told me not to be stupid) and guess what? I felt comfortable and cool and not a single person looked at me aghast. I now feel brave enough to do it again! :)

WantAnOrange · 27/05/2012 20:06

Well, considering I'm a natural blue and only have to stand near a 40watt bulb for 30 seconds to burn, shorts and t-shirt are kind of needed. But hey, if skin cancer's your thing, you carry on......

PrematurelyAirconditioned · 27/05/2012 20:08

I agree OP.
Ledkr, no, it's people like you who make women end up swimming in dresses.

PorkyandBess · 27/05/2012 20:18

I was out with my 14 yr old son today, walking the dogs by a river. Loads of people out enjoying sun, picnics, paddlers etc.

He said, as we walked by a woman (in a hitched up maxi) paddling in the river with her dog - 'mum, why do fat woman always wear big dresses?'

Sweeping generalisation aside, I thought it was a bit sad that he thought that.

nothinglefttolose · 27/05/2012 20:25

I like a dress on the beach ...feels cooler

Plus easier to pee in the dunes if you have to...

ledkr · 27/05/2012 20:27

please explain premature what because i think there is style and class in wearing something that suits your figure and makes you look lovely rather than shocking. If so then yes I stand accused.

MrsCampbellBlack · 27/05/2012 20:31

But ledkr what would you then advise bigger women to wear?

I'm a realist - no matter what I wear I'm never going to look as good as a 5ft 10 model but what do i do then? Just give up?

I'd rather see someone whose clearly enjoying their clothes and in this hot weather looks comfortable.

ThatVikRinA22 · 27/05/2012 20:31

irony.

you want women to wear whatever they want - and yet if they happen to want to wear a dress or shorts instead of a bikini you appear to have a problem with it....

get a life and let others live theirs however they want, and wear what they want.

ledkr · 27/05/2012 20:46

hang on a minute before you all start to demonise me. I am a size 16,have a hanging belly {4 sections} and had a double mastectomy. I am all for women having confidence and could actually care myself,i just think its better to dress for the shape and size you are. I have gone from bikinis to a one piece and id probably put on a sarong to go to the bar.

I dont wear tight fitting short shorts as i dont want to feel self concious and show my cellulite.

If you re read my first post I was not intending to tell women to cover up just that i personally feel there is soemthing to suit and flatter everyone no matter whart their shape and size.

MrsCampbellBlack · 27/05/2012 20:50

I certainly wasn't demonising you ledkr and agree its best to flatter your shape as much as possible but when its hot - I don't think you should stop wearing maxi dresses or whatever because of your size.

Dress to look the best you can by all means but most of us need to accept we're not super models but we are still allowed to like clothes and have fun with them.

ThatVikRinA22 · 27/05/2012 20:50

my post was to the OP btw....

i say to everyone - wear what ever the hell you want to, you like, and feel comfortable in.

ledkr · 27/05/2012 20:58

Im all for it too,i wish i coiuld be less self concious myself. I had no choice yesterday at the local outdoor pool i had to run after the baby often no time to chuck on my shorts and could imagine the wobble as i ran Hmm

I think there is a massive difference between a big lady or man for that matter in a tiny costume and the same sized person in a well fitting flattering swimsuit.

I would also never swim in a dress Grin

dexter73 · 27/05/2012 21:08

I think you should wear what you like and feel comfortable in, but also think you shouldn't cover up just because you think some sad individual may be judging you because a bit of flab, stretch marks, veins etc. might be showing. Everyone has their flaws but most people just don't care/notice if you aren't perfect.

bunnybabylon · 27/05/2012 21:12

i do wish some men would wear a bra though, the amount of man boobs i saw coming at me today at the car boot sale was shocking

CaroleService · 27/05/2012 21:41

I usually keep a caftan on over tankini. Not because I care if I scorch your eyes with my apron belly and rice pudding cellulite though - I just can't be arsed putting sun cream on every 5 min.

lumbago · 27/05/2012 22:22

Mrs mike. Hi no. Pestered to be one. Can't face having to understand case mgmt
