maternity underwear

Since i've been pregnant the tone and texture of my arse and hips has become very doughy. So through my clothes i am looking lumpy. I have some functions to go to and want to wear jersey material wrap dresses, but they seem to skim and cling to all the bumps.

So what i want is one of those body things which start under your bra and sausage down the body and go into shorts/french knickers. But one which has ample room for my bump.

I have been fruitlessly searching the internet but wondered if anyone had found something similar?

I found something from hotmilk (below) but it looks too tight and structured over the tummy. Also the model is not pregnant (why do they do that?!) so i am unsure how it would really sit on me.

How about a petticoat or half slip? Less restrictive but would help the jersey skim neatly.

Something like this a couple of sizes bigger than you, pulled up over the bump?

Spanx do maternity, but not sure how comfy they would be!

monkeysmama · 27/05/2012 11:13

I think Topshop do a version of maternity spanx - or one of the high st. stores anyway. I agree about comfort though - you could end up being so hot & uncomfortable you won't have fun.

Spuddybean · 27/05/2012 11:34

hhhmmm yes that's what i'm worried about. One of the things is a n all day type thing in July and i hate being hot. The thing is i look fine from the front then i turn and just see all these ugly lumps where my bra is, the tie of the dress and my square hips. :(

I should have said in my post - I don't really like slips either as i find they ride up. And it's a beautiful colour, royal blue dress, which falls open at the thigh and has a deep v neck - so i don't really want to show the slip under it.

I will check out the top shop ones.

Cheers all for the suggestions. :)

this is the spanx, looks like it'd be perfect to me

PurplePidjin · 27/05/2012 15:43

Sounds more like you need a better fitting bra and some practice at tying the ties tbh!

Spuddybean · 27/05/2012 17:58

haha! :) not so easy i'm afraid (i have moaned long and hard about not being able to get a bra that fits and being told at bra fitters that i am un bra-able) i wear the closest thing i can that fits and actually you can easily slide 2 fingers under the elastic but i still see lumps and marks thru clothes. And i tie the ties as loose as possible without it undoing itself but am still conscious of it.

I am only a 12/14 but as i said it's the texture of my skin rather than my size.

I don't know where you are, but the lovely ladies at Bradbeers in Romsey have always done exceptionally well by everyone I know who's used them. Worth, for me, a 40mile trip each way!

Mine, I've never had the budget for the posh proper bra folk eg bravissimo or rigby and peller Wink

Spuddybean · 27/05/2012 22:39

Sadly not near Romsey - Although i doubt they could help, all dept stores i have been to have turned me away. I am not suitable for bravissimo, but i may treat myself to tailor made rigby and peller after the baby. I'm just sick of feeling like a freak and being uncomfortable all the time :(
