Save me from Fitflops

mirpuppet · 24/05/2012 19:17

Lovely weather -- but my sandals are making my feet hurt. Rushed home and put on a pair of Fitflops.

Should order more?

Is there a more stylish alternative?

My issue is the padding under the balls of my feet.

I've tried the fly london wedges but they come off my feet like some reviewers complain of.

Please other options -- I like to wear skirts and dresses and fitflops are too bulky but I also want comfy feet.

I think they're stylish enough for me (I have 5 pairs) but I have teeny feet (3) so they look dainty on me. They do thin soled ones.

Also Ugg do thinner soled flipflops in a brown suede and they're really quite attractive.

mirpuppet · 24/05/2012 21:01

No petite feet here -- I'm a 7 or 7.5.

Watching with interest as I have the same problem area. The most comfortable summer sandals I've had were from Josef Seibel but most of their shoes are pretty fugly too! I managed to find a reasonable looking pair but that was 3 years ago. Might be worth a look though. They have squidgy soles on the inside so are quite blissfully comfortable. Gabor also do really comfy shoes (also squidgy on the inside!). Expensive, but if they don't make your feet hurt like mad may be worth the price per wear investment. A slightly more attractive variety of styles here tinyurl.com/d72qc4m

I also find that low (2" max) cork or crepe soled wedges are bearable as long as they have at least a centimetre of sole under the ball of my foot. I can't wear anything that has a thin sole that I can feel the ground through or that doesn't have a bit of give under foot. Clark's Originals are very comfortable, but again, a challenge to find something attractive.

Someone needs to design a range of attractive, feminine shoes for people with bunions, fallen arches and tender balls (snigger).

Bunbaker · 25/05/2012 09:16

Do you have a Rieker shop near you? They sell unbelievably comfortable foowear. Some of it is hideous, but there are a few gems amongst their range.

MaryMaryOnTheContrary · 25/05/2012 09:21

Oh God HAVING KITTENS, I wish someone would make that range. I have an ex-dancers feet. Years of wedging them into point shoes has left me near crippled. I have to wear flat or near flat shoes and have real problems with my trotters!

slalomsuki · 25/05/2012 09:21

I have the same issue ie padding under the balls of my feet is a must.

I haven't resorted to fit flops yet but do choose shoes and sandals with a slight platform on them to give the padding.

I have also got a range of sketchers that the sole is rubber but looks like wood and the tips are material with a design on them. They are my summer stable.

BBMs · 25/05/2012 09:22

I am a fitflop addict! I have a few pairs of sandals and 8pairs of shoes/trainers plus 3pair of boots... BlushGrin can't seem to be able to wear any other pair of shoes without running back to get my fitflops on... I have the same issue with the padding under the ball of my foot.
A friend of mine found a brand that she swears by, the shoes look like any other pair of fashionable shoes but got padding and arch support. Worth taking a look www.earthbrands.com/earthfootwear
Good luck :)

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 25/05/2012 09:49

I've been wearing these Scholl for the last few weeks and they are SO comfortable, I've had quite a few compliments on them too, I feel a bit less clumpy and flat footed than in Fitflop types. I have very wide feet and need good arch support, so I struggle with flat, thin soled sandals.

gypsyfloss · 25/05/2012 10:07

This year I have bought Birkies instead of fit flops , one pearlescent white and one glossy black( one pair rather than one of each Grin ), both from amazon & under 30 quid, slide ones rather than toe post ones . They're v comfy but not massively stylish but I also thought that about fit flops and anyway I'm old enough now not to care :)

Pinot · 25/05/2012 13:12

I wear fitflops all year round - sandals, boots, trainers. They just can't be beaten on comfort and I think they look nice.

mirpuppet · 25/05/2012 17:47

Thanks ladies. I have tried slide birkies and they were not comfortable for me.

I also have some joseph seibel's -- I wore them today and achy feet.

Will look at some of the other brands recommended here.

I also have a pair of Scholls similar to WhoKnows. They are great but the sole took a bit of walking in.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/05/2012 07:26

Yes, I've just said that on another thread about the Scholls actually, they do take a bit of breaking in but then they are so comfortable.

ggirl · 26/05/2012 07:43

m&s footglove are quite comfy ..but not as comfy as fitflop

just got a new pair of fitflop yesterday

kerstina · 26/05/2012 08:13

I have the fly London yoda wedges and find them really comfortable. I have narrow feet and they don't come off me.
The ones you linked look really wide and not much support.

Another fitflop addict here. They are the only thing that don't make my hips and back ache, still suffering from post-pregnancy pgp Sad I have 2 pairs but planning on extending my collection Smile
So my advice is go for it!

I got these last week and they are fab. Bit higher, but still really comfy. I am slightly distressed to find that Clarks is always my first call for shoes now.

cocolepew · 26/05/2012 13:10

Earth Spirit shoes and sandals are very padded and comfortable, but some can be fugly.

bubble2bubble · 26/05/2012 13:21

I have some Earth sandals from a few years back - they are fantastically comfortable and look fine, just like flat, stroppy sandals. Haven't looked at what they're selling at the moment though, but def recommend for comfort

mirpuppet · 26/05/2012 17:44

Thanks all.

I spent the day out in my fitflops as I was wearing a denim skirt -- not such a bad look and my feet are fine (not achy for the first time this week).

Will look to see if they have more dress friendly styles.

May try the Via? Bar Black linked to above -- bit afraid they may look like orthopedic shoes. Guess I need to find a store where I can try them on.

I have pretty normal feet -- neither wide nor narrow.

I tried the Fly London Yoda but I'm not a fan of the ankle strap and what more of my foot out in a sandal (no covered ankle).

how much?????

bejesus...they are pricey arent they? why does everyone wear them? what are they meant to do?

PrematurelyAirconditioned · 26/05/2012 18:30

You can quite often get half price Fit Flops if you wait until the end of the season. I got 3 pairs half price in Sweaty Betty, and I saw some red trainers for 25 quid in TK Maxx the other day. I think it'll be a while before you can get those VIAs on the cheap, but I'm v tempted anyway.
We wear them because they are soooooo comfy Vicar.
