Save me from Fitflops

Lovely weather -- but my sandals are making my feet hurt. Rushed home and put on a pair of Fitflops.

Should order more?

Is there a more stylish alternative?

My issue is the padding under the balls of my feet.

I've tried the fly london wedges but they come off my feet like some reviewers complain of.

Please other options -- I like to wear skirts and dresses and fitflops are too bulky but I also want comfy feet.

I tried to get the sale fitflops from boots a while back - their website needs attention - they say they have them in stock, but when you try to buy them, they say they're out of stock.

I've just ordered these:
Arena

I know they are $$$ but I will wear them to death

gypsyfloss · 27/05/2012 07:51

Mirpuppet I found that fit flop styles vary greatly in fit and dressiness so it's worth trying lots of them on . I have a black pair with silver stones in the front that would be suitable for evening but not poolside and a bronze walk star pair that really are daytime/dog walking only.

Cloggs online often have them at 10% off, good delivery and returns.

mirpuppet · 27/05/2012 08:21

I have two pairs -- one with the stones and one walkstar. I try to fool myself that the ones with the stones are dressy but the thick sole belies that fact. The don't look right with a short/ dainty summer dress. Fine with a maxi because you just get a peep of the stones when you stride forward.

I hope to try on some without a toe post this week and really my life is not so dressy that I can't go around w/ fit flops.

try the arenas if you can mirpuppet - for some reason the sole doesn't look so clunky on them. They are bloody hard to find in shops though. Some of the big john lewis stores have them

Follyfoot · 27/05/2012 08:34

Gabor Lanzarote are the comfiest things I've ever had on my feet. Lots of colours here

gypsyfloss · 27/05/2012 08:40

Heh mirpuppet that's very reason why, despite me saying the black ones look dressy, I don't actually wear mine at all! At least with my Birkies they are what they are, not trying to look fancy.

mirpuppet · 27/05/2012 08:52

gypsyfloss I just read you post above and I think I have exactly thr same two pairs of fitflops but I wear them because I want comfort (and didn't get on with birkenstocks).

I also have a pair of fitflop boots which were so comfortable this winter which is part of what is making me consider paying 60 pounds for a non post version of fitflops this summer.

I will wear different sandals for evening wear.dressier occasions.

You might as well give them a try. My bronze ones are at least 3 years old so I feel I got my money's worth out of them. Am under no illusion that they did anything for my arse or legs though!

Herrena · 27/05/2012 09:28

I'm 31+5 with DS2 and need a pair of flipflops that are:

  1. comfy (my hip has been killing me)
  2. as unconstricting as possible (my feet have been swelling up)
  3. moderately attractive (I find Fitflops a bit bulky and am worried I'll fall off them) and
  4. not extortionate!! (I can dream)

Any suggestions?

gypsyfloss · 27/05/2012 20:29

Herrena I think your best bet is to try loads on as they do seem to vary quite a bit according to the style. You could order loads and return the ones you don't like. Pricewise they (as in fitflops) are much the same everywhere although Cloggs online do 10% off almost all the time.

There is another thread elsewhere where a podiatrist comments that fitflops/birkies etc can make you claw your toes and are not good for your feet. I wonder whether in needing to have a size that fits your swelling feet , you might then end up doing just as she says and perhaps causing more problems for your hip?

polyhymnia · 28/05/2012 09:03

The ones that have a strap at the back, like Arena and Via, shoudn't cause any toe-clawing problems though.

Herrena · 28/05/2012 09:13

Fair point gypsyfloss. I am not a fan of the thong style anyway but it seemed like the only option! I think I will just keep my eyes open as I prowl around the shops with DS1 (he's young enough to be forced into a pram and taken shoe shopping with me) Grin

Thanks for the tip polyhymnia, will check those out!

polyhymnia · 28/05/2012 10:45

They're all on the Fitflop site.

Nonky · 28/05/2012 18:54

Why not try sketchers tone up sandals- I bought some the other day and they are the most comfortable things I've ever worn Smile

Freshletticia · 28/05/2012 22:24

Anyone got the Fitflop Lolla slides? Was thinking of getting them in cougar or navy. They look v comfy.

Milliways · 28/05/2012 22:29

I have found the most fab insoles that really help my neuroma and they are great for plantar fascitis too. They feel REALLY strange as they are full of a plasma that continually moves s you feel like you are on an air-bed!

Got them from a stand at a Motorhome show Happy Feet and have a card to get more pairs for £30 delivered. They are really thin so amazing how they work, but they really fit in all shoe types.

polyhymnia · 28/05/2012 22:38

I do have the navy Lolla slides from last year. They are fine but I'm not really used to 'backless' shoes so didn't wear them to walk far.

But this year having got very badly rubbed heels from some other shoes I've tried the Walkstar slides in tan The straps are thinner and I seem to be able to get my feet further into them IYSWIM so are more comfortable and 'secure'. They also look less heavy though soles still thick of course.

But I guess people's feet differ and anyway you may be well used to slides with no back straps. The espadrille look of the soles is quite nice.

Freshletticia · 28/05/2012 22:56

Oh thanks, I am used to backless slides and I rather liked the thick sole. i had Dr Martens thick-soled slides years ago, but they stopped making them and the Art thick-soled slides have the heel lower than the ball of the foot, which makes my calves hurt. Thin-soled shoes make my feet look tiny in comparison to the rest of me! I do like toe-posts as well though.
I really like Fly London cork wedges as long as they have ankle buckle - I also find their slingbacks will not stay on my feet. Had to give a lovely pair away. i have 2 pairs of strappy silver wedges with criss-cross type straps. Both v comfy. I bought the second pair to stop me wearing out the first ones. One has a black wedge and one is natural.
I have Birkis which I wear gardening. They don't seem to be smart enough for work etc...and only come in black or white. They have just a strap over the instep and a black flower between my toes.

fitflopqueen · 29/05/2012 14:07

This thread has just cost me £55, already have 2 pairs in silver and navy, and 2 pairs of the boots, had a search and found electra in gold and walkstars in red on sale with mandmdirect.
I find totally flat sandals very uncomfortable but can walk all day in these and my toes dont claw to hold them on.

Herrena · 29/05/2012 14:25

I've been to town today and found a pair of Regatta sandals at TKMaxx for a tenner!! Perfect for my needs as both the toe and ankle straps are adjustable, so can be let out to accomodate my giant preggy feet....

They are very comfy and apparently also available from Go Outdoors for the same price. Technically not a flip-flop but I thought I'd update you all Grin

mamijacacalys · 29/05/2012 21:27

I have just bought the fly London wedges linked to in the OP.
Normally a Croc, Birki and Hush Puppy fan but wanted something a bit smarter to wear with work skirts and dresses.
I heart them very much already.

gypsyfloss · 29/05/2012 22:18

Glad you've now got happy feet Herrena :)
