Is there a style of shorts out there that won't make my arse look huge?

I don't usually have a 'does my arse look big' fixation - I'm pretty much happy with my body shape - 5'10 and a size 12. And I can usually carry off most styles and clothes.

But I've been trying to find some shorts to wear 'in public' and they all look horrible. I have a couple of pairs of very short-shorts which only just cover my bum and they actually seem the most flattering style - I wear them in the garden when I'm sunbathing, but wouldn't dare wear them out

But when I try any longer ones, be them tight or loose, just above the knee or a bit shorter, I just look like I have a big fat bum and silly little legs like sticks below the knee.

Can any style gurus help me? I seem to remember Trinny & Suzannah once saying that shorts suit no-one, but I try not to listen to them

I can't help you cos I've the same problem but I think most knee-length shorts are hideous. Short ones are more flattering with the exception of those rotten cut-off denim ones with the white pockets hanging down underneath but I see what you mean about wearing them out, they sort of scream 'exercise' or 'sunbathing' don't they?

I doubt there's any such thing as a flattering pair of shorts :(

I don't normally like linen but I have a pair of looser linen shorts and they're quite flattering :)

Just to add - mine are longer!

Cut some shorty shorts from a pair a jeans that fit perfectly. if they fit you as jeans, they`ll fit you as shorts. The high waisted stuff about at the mo defo adds inches all round and IMO not very flattering on anyone including skinny ma links.
