"Boyfriend style" trousers/shorts - what are they/how do you wear them?!

Ok so I bought some nice khaki shorts from Gap, size 8. I am a small ten/large 8 so thought they would be fine. (No time to try on as toddlers in tow)

However, they are enormous!!!! I note they are "boyfriend style" - I am fashion ignorant and so no idea what this means. Should I wear a belt with them or am I meant to be showing my pants to the world?! I can literally get them on without undoing the button and I am really sure I'm not a size 6!!!

Help me. Help me wear clothes...!

Boyfriend means loose and baggy although yours sound a little too loose and baggy. A size 6 Envy !!!!

I think Gap sizes are US, and big for that even! So, if you bought an 8, it is actually a UK 12. Maybe nothing to do with the style!

I thought it might be that 4am but they def say UK8 EU36 US4. Can't change them now as bought them ages ago before all the rain (so its my fault it rained!!) - I think I'll have to take them in though. Bit annoyed but also bit chuffed - total fluke, most of my stuff is 10!!

Gap sizes are big. I always have to size down. And boyfrien styles are loose anyway, so you have a double whammy there..

Lozario · 23/05/2012 22:00

I didn't know that about Gap sizings. (But as I say, I know nothing about clothes/shops!)

Thank you wise ones Grin

Gap sizing has changed - according to the sales person I spoke to their sizing isn't even consistent across the shop floor.

I have slim legs. They look terrible in me. Make me look fatter than I am. When I try them I then pull the fabric back and lo! I look better.
Think must be worn with care.

I thought GAP clothing was in american sizes i.e us 12 = uk 14 etc?

lumbago · 24/05/2012 12:47

Two sizes down from
Us sizes. Then also
One size down as its big

Lozario · 25/05/2012 09:11

It really baffles me. Aren't sizes based on measurements? Do they just guess?! I'm a topshop 10 and a Gap 6 in that case; that really doesn't make sense! No wonder I'm rubbish at shopping at last I have an excuse

I usually have to take half the shop into the changing rooms as I'm always between sizes, no matter what size I am Confused - it bugs me when they have a limited number of items allowed in the changing room policy!
