Swimsuit

Hello all you stylish people

I wonder if you could guide me towards a swimsuit that would look alright on me.

I am normally a size ten but after I've had my second baby (over six months ago, the shame) I am still a size 14. I'm going on holiday soon and none of my swimwear fits, obviously. I've had a c-section and have a horrificly big belly overhang, so a bikini is out.

So I'm asking for a nice swimsuit for a 32 old mother of two who doesn't want to really be seen half naked in public and will probably be chasing after one toddler and one possibly crawling baby...

Also, would there be another option, other than a swimsuit that covers up more of my problem areas?

Thanks so much in advance.

How about this sort of thing?

girlgonemild · 23/05/2012 10:37

I had to go to a spa day 8 weeks after my section and went for this www.marksandspencer.com/Control-V-Neck-Ruched-Stretch-Swimsuit/dp/B002K4T4WO?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_14&nodeId=43167030&sr=1-14&qid=1337765747
It's not super fashionable but it is quite flattering and holds you in comfortably and has ruching to skim over any lumpy/bumpy bits!

KenNEddieKennedy · 23/05/2012 10:43

I think this is gorgeous, I'm ordering one.

John Lewis Swimsuit

Tankinis hide a multitude of sins. Lands End ones are really good www.landsend.co.uk/Women%27s-Beach-Living-Halter-Tunic-Top-Dot/P_21000,en_GB,pd.html?cgid=5738

Quenelle · 23/05/2012 10:45

I am a bit bigger than I would like to be at the moment so won't feel confident in a bikini this year. I bought one from Sainsburys like the one girlgonemild has linked to, but in red with white polka dots. It's modestly cut but has a flattering, 50s look.

There are similar ones around with little skirts as well if you want to feel a bit less exposed.

Trudyla · 23/05/2012 12:19

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. They are really lovely.

The Simply beack and Lands End ones are my favourites. Now I will just have to make up my mind whether to treat myself to it and admit that I might be a size 14 for a while or whether go for a cheaper option and hope to slim down again soon.

I like the sound of the M&S one skimming over lumpy bits, so might go for that one. I only like it in black and navy though, cos I'm too scared of colours.

The John Lewis one is nice and classy, too.

Food for thought...

Again, thank you so much. Thanks

Oooh, I didn't see your post Quenelle

I like the sound of a little skirt cos my legs leave a lot to be desired for. Am not in the UK at the moment so can't pop into Sainsburys. Do you have a link to a swimsuit with a skirt?

Cheers.

Do you need somewhere that delivers overseas?

Debenhams do a strapless one

Cherryprint from M&S

Green with white spots from Next

Lovetats · 23/05/2012 12:50

I've just ordered the Next green one - I'm hoping it'll draw attention away from my arse thighs face me :-)

Quenelle · 23/05/2012 17:26

Excellent. It's really nice. I hope you like it and have a great holiday.

Midge25 · 23/05/2012 17:29

I've purchased the one KennEddie linked to .... Am also size 14

Lovetats · 23/05/2012 18:17

Thanks, Quenelle! X

Trudyla · 24/05/2012 12:05

Ooooh, thanks. I really like the green Next one. Not sure I can pull off the colour though.

Also DP just said he would happily treat me to the Lands End one (black) cos he just remembered in a blind panic that it's my birthday soon

I wonder what those two would look like on my bulging belly... Do you think they are flattering?

I always prefer a bit of a skirt on a swimsuit, Trudyla, as I pretend hope that it draws away attention from my tummy. I do have a Lands End tankini top and it's a bit small very nice but I'd want to wear it with one of their little swimskirts rather than bikini bottoms.

What a nice hubby you have! :)

francophilesplease · 28/05/2012 10:16

v useful thread for me!!! I looked at the little skirts on Landsend, and think they look cool on the models, but can anyone vouch for what they look like on real women in their 40s who are 14-16?

whackamole · 28/05/2012 10:26

I really like those skirty ones actually, but I have a sneaking suspicion they wouldn't look quite so chic on me!

Franco - yes, really need to know how they look on 'real' women!

AliceInSandwichLand · 28/05/2012 10:37

I am a 47 year old real woman and about a 14, franco, and I have just bought a swimsuit with a skirt from Debenhams online - I bought this one

www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10001_10001_064020604360_-1?breadcrumb=Home%7EWomen%7ESwimwear+%26amp%3B+beachwear

but they have several ones with pretty prints that would be nice for someone who didn't want black. I'm really pleased with it - I'm pear shaped and not keen on the tops of my thighs, and it's flattering, stays put well and is fine to swim in. I don't look exactly like the model in it, but then I don't look exactly like the model out of it, either ; ) Read the reviews on there - I think they're very fair.

Lovetats · 11/06/2012 17:14

I've just picked up the green Next swimsuit and have to say that I like it so much, I've ordered the plain red one as well. It's very flattering & hides a multitude of sins.

Lovetats · 11/06/2012 17:14

Oh and I'm 47 btw.
