Family wedding, advice please?

We have a big family wedding coming up and I'll be meeting up with our gang of cousins. I am 36 and the only one with children. Cousins are all lovely but quite glamorous (think TOWIE) and the last time we got together, I felt like a librarian. I'll be going with DD, 11, who will probably wear short flower print dress and ballet pumps and will look beautiful. So, I went out today to have a look and the highstreet is full of bigger versions of what DD's wearing!

So have come back and had a cry and frankly now have no idea what I should be wearing. Mostly I wear Tesco Jeans and ASDA tops and I have a fifties style dress apart from that which I've been wearing to every other occasion apart from funerals for about 8 years. I want to look fashionable but not muttony - can spend up to £150 if necessary - any ideas would be really helpful, I don't even know what looks nice these days. I am a size 14. Thank you.

Lettuce, no it's not on there - I can't make it come up on google images. Never mind I think it was far too short anyway - I would spend the whole day trying to stand completely straight so as not to flash my pants!

I had been pondering over whether to make an appointment for hair - didn't even do that for my own wedding (but I was only 20 - so had youth on my side!) I think I will phone and book an appointment. Don't really ever go to the hairdressers to be honest and never had my nails done. I appreciate that I sound like a very scruffy person, but I'm not really. However, I know I will feel more confident on the day if I make the effort. Can't manage the lashes though! Smile

We'll have y' feeling great Hair and nails will really help get you in the mood, bet you!

Anyway, assuming lady vintage remain uncontactable, how about something a bit different - this, maybe these shoes and this bag again?.

An obi belt over it could also be good be really nice, bronze? or gold?. Not sure.

And I think it'd take a petticoat if you wanted to 50's it up, would need a belt though., maybe this?. Does that make it quite a versatile dress?

Creamy pashmina for snuggling.

Anywaym yeah, the shoes probably too high, but you get the drift...

Maybe?

(I don't mean 'This is a Dress That Needs a Belt', it could work nicely with one as well as as it is...)

Well - I went shopping on my own yesterday and came back with this and these. (fingers crossed that it will be OK).

I am thinking of maybe a brightly coloured clutch bag and some earrings and hair in a low bun??

This is not at all what I was looking for but it did look nice on...dressing confidence at about zero and I still have the receipt, so advice welcome.

Could I put something pretty in my hair with a bun? DH thinks fascinators are hilarious, so pretty clip or something??

Ooh, well done! I like the dress - it looks really quite informal on the site but maybe it's not IRL, or maybe the wedding jsut isn't as formal as I thought. A good dress, in any case. 'fraid I'm less enthusiastic about the shoes in nude (love 'em in the red) - but I'm not the one who'll be wearing them and maybe they look great with the dress IRL.

Oh, and I can't help but agree with your DH on fascinators - a pretty thing with a bun would be much more elegant. What sort of thing were you thinking of?

How do you feel in the dress does it make you feel special ? I like the dress btw and I like the shoes and they probably would go as i have worn a similiar dress with heels in that colour. Can you go and try the red ones on as well or would you never wear them again ? The red ones would have more impact?
