Which nail polishes last...?

lovelychops · 13/05/2012 20:12

I carefully painted my finger nails yesterday. Applied a base coat, AND a top coat. So, imagine my disappointment when a few hours later it started to chip and peel.
I was using Barry M to be fair, but surely it could have at least lasted the afternoon?!

Does anyone have any suggestions as to polishes which are more hard wearing and long lasting? Anything on a budget or, do you need to pay out to get the results?

Thanks

What base and top coat do you use? I find even the cheapest polishes last with a decent top coat.

Nails inc

I love Barry M base coat but use Leighton Denny, Nails Inc or recently discovered Sally Hanson professional manicured polishes which last AGES.

Are you leaving long enough in between coats? I use a hair drier to dry my nails then don't do anything for at least an hour - I always paint my nail last thing at night.

I use Maybelline Forever Strong, I use the clear base/top and then two coats of the colour and then the top coat. It lasts me a week usually, with two toddlers and lots of washing up and nappy changing which I think is pretty impressive given that it isn't too pricey.

My favourite colour at the moment is Rose Poudre.

Will look for that next time I am in Boots new

Also, once I have finished the top coat I spray this on and it sets it really hard really quick. I've had my bottle since about 2009 so it lasts ages too.

I have given up and get Shellac

lovelychops · 13/05/2012 20:46

Ah thanks people. My base coat and top coat were pretty cheap too. Didn't think it would make a difference (foolish).

Thinking about it, didn't leave all that long between coats either.... It's my shoddy workmanship isn't it ? Grin

kenDodds would love Shellac, how long would you say it lasts?

i find opi lasts for ever and some nails inc too. i kind i have to add a layer or so daily to make them last and use nails inc top coat alot which is fantastic

I use a L'Oreal base coat, then colour (not the super fast drying ones as they peel) and then a Sally Hansen top coat. It lasts forever. I bought my first OPI and Marvala the other day, they both lasted over a week.

I hate Nails Inc. They stain and don't last.

I had Shellac, it lasted well but I took it off after a week as my nails grow very fast and I didn't want the upkeep.

OPI and Maybelline

I like no.7 polishes because they go on so smooth less likely to chip I think so last longer.
Rimmel are good on a budget too.
