I'm 42 and been invited to a nightclub...with young people! What to wear??

I've have been invited to nightclub for a friends birthday and haven't a clue what to wear! I have something to wear for pub outings, work dos, friends parties but no nightclubbing outfits.

I don't want to try to hard and look like mutton but then I don't want to look a frump either. The group I'm going with are actually older than me but with no clothing inhibitions, I, unfortunately, am not so brave.

What is your figure like, and what styles suit you?

Are you likely to dance, or most sit/stand around chatting?

Missboobyvontits · 13/05/2012 20:36

I'm 5 foot 5, size 12 with fairly large boobs, hence the name, I'm a bit of an apple shape though with no waist.

I would love to be sitting chatting but know I will be dragged up to dance so people will see me. I want to somehow look amazing and sophisticated but not draw attention to myself.

LBD and fab shoes?
Be wary of dressy jeans if the type of places you are going to have dress codes.

Missboobyvontits · 13/05/2012 20:58

Thanks warmandwooly I was thinking of black dress...but we are heading very very slowly into spring/summer can I still wear black tights or would it need to be bare tanned legs?

Black dress and black tights can look a bit matronly.

Do you know what kind of nightclub it is, so that we have an idea of the general clientele so that you don't stick out like a sore thumb Wink

ie: Is it a pub/club or is it a funky house club or music venue. If you don't know- what's the name and what town is it in and I'll scope out their website or facebook!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/05/2012 21:01

It will depend a lot on what kind of club.

last time I went out dancing with young people I wore:
black skinnies
black heels
black silk top
silver cuff and silver bib necklace thing

Once I started dancing (and after a few cocktails) I stopped caring what I looked like anyway!

warmandwooly · 13/05/2012 21:03

I would say bare tanned legs and/or with the addition of maybe with nude fishnets?

Colourful bag (pref with a decent handle so you don't lose it) and maybe some statememt /cheap necklace.

Just make sure you feel comdfortable! Don't wear heels that are too high/that will kill your enjoyment if they hurt you.

iliketea · 13/05/2012 21:04

Can you get some bright coloured tights to wear with a black dress? primark had some bright small net fishnet tights which might look good?

Wink
GnocchiNineDoors · 13/05/2012 21:07

I would wear black opaques but I have a my own leg phobia. If you have good legs, bare them!

What about something like this?

Missboobyvontits · 13/05/2012 21:23

Thanks ladies. I'm going to a club in the Essex heartland if that narrows the dress code down a bit. I'm really not sure if my legs are good to bare yet, they are currently on the white side of grey I just have to keep the faith and think Jennifer Anniston is my age! I can do this!!

Apply some fake tan on your legs to brown them up.

But, won't it be too dark inside the nightclub to see much anyway? Definitely wouldn't wear tights if you're going to be dancing - way too hot!

Dollydowser · 14/05/2012 07:31

I haven't been to a club in years so have no idea, but if you want a black dress for big boobs, Pepperberry

Missboobyvontits · 14/05/2012 08:20

I think I might have to have a practice run with the fake tan and see if I can make it work. Thanks everyone.

Dollydowser love the dress! It looks what I'm after x
