Small boobs...

AIBU to think that I could find a bra that is uplifting, but not wodged full of foam, which will be flattering on those of us who are not overendowed on the boobicular area?
At the moment it either looks like I'm completely flat chested, or have two bean bags shoved down there.

I am struggling to find a bra that's pretty and supportive. Any recommendations?

Thanks! I cannot wait to hit the shops. Since I spent 2 years in tanktops and non wired things due to pregnancy/bfing I cannot stand bras and look crap in them anyway. I've been wearing 32 or 34 b and feeling like I'm not normal or something. Hope a size change is the answer (rather than a boob job).

HazleNutt · 02/11/2012 12:29

Oh and everybody trying new sizes - report back as well!

Nightwish · 02/11/2012 13:04

I remeasured definitely under 30, over 36.
I want to order online but I suppose its best to go to a shop and try some first.
Where in the high street stocks 30E or similar?
Or just ordered a couple of different sizes online and send the wrong ones back?

I hate shopping at the best of times Grin.

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/11/2012 13:11

Debenhams or john Lewis have a good range, if there is a bravissimo nearby that is your best bet. 30e is a good place to start

LauraPalmerPlusOne · 02/11/2012 13:40

Sorry for my delay to your responses - have been working silly me!

I appreciate everything you say about scooping Sorrel but I can't even fill a B cup. I once had a sales lady in Victoria's Secret say to me that they don't make bras small enough to fit my breasts. Angry

I think I am a weird case. Because when I say tiny boobs I mean tiny. But I've always measured a 33.5-34 under bust yet I'm on the small side of size 10 (so can often fit into an 8, but usually prefer a 10).

I'll step out to one of the shops in a bit, armed with all of the good advice on this thread, and will report back after I try on a range of sizes that I would never normally imagine might fit!

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/11/2012 13:56

Victorias secret are muppets, seriously. Their attempt at fitting me was hilarious. And regardless of how big or small you may be no fitter should ever make a woman feel bad about herself. Please try one of the decent shops rather than m and s so you can try a better range of bras. John Lewis are pretty good and stock a very wide range of sizes and their fitter are mostly good too.

LauraPalmerPlusOne · 02/11/2012 13:57

Thank you Stat - will head to John Lewis! Wink

SorrelForbes · 02/11/2012 13:58

I second SC. Victoria Secrets are appalling! The bottom line (or should that be top?) is that you have a 6" difference between your measurements. Therefore you absolutely cannot be an A cup. I suspect a 32E in a padded plunge or balconette could be the bra for you Wink. Enjoy your shopping.

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/11/2012 14:12

Good luck Laura. It doesn't matter what the end size is, but hopefully you will find something that is more comfortable and matches your shape properly as it sounds like you haven't so far. Big or small, uncomfortable bras suck.

LauraPalmerPlusOne · 02/11/2012 14:13

But, but, but maybe there's only a 6" difference because my upper back is so wide?? So the extra inches are in my back, not my boobs? (and yes, I did just measure again to make certain I didn't have my numbers wrong!)

All said, I may be able to fill an A cup but placement-wise I'm definitely not an A - the cups are never in the right location to look normal on me Grin

LauraPalmerPlusOne · 02/11/2012 14:14

Hear, hear Stats - uncomfortable bras are evil

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/11/2012 14:20

That's definitely a possibility Laura, I have a friend who has a strong upper back who I suspect would measure more than her cup size- she used to row. I suspect you probably need a wider cup that captures more tissue- this cab be very brand dependent too as some use wires which are narrow but deeper- like panache- whilst others like freya are wider, but shallower. Kind of like the difference between a u-shaped wire, and one that is more like a sideways c.

mummmsy · 02/11/2012 14:33

just marking big-boobed spot for measuring and calculating later Grin

KnockMeDown · 02/11/2012 15:10

I have been wearing 38B for sometime now, and on the basis of this thread, and in the hope that I am not actually 38, I have measured, and am definitley 38 under the bust!!! That makes me feel huge judging by some of the comments upthread, but I am not, really. I am an apple-shape, 14 up top, and 12 below.

What did surprise me was that I was 42 over, so that makes me a D? But this was measured over my current bra and a t-shirt - is that ok?

I have not had any of the backache others have spoken of, so am surprised if I am really that size, but have found that underwires were digging in. Looks like some bra shopping is required!!

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/11/2012 15:42

Take the t shirt off to do the overbust, and take the bra off altogether for under and make sure it is measured firmly underneath.

BorisTheBold · 02/11/2012 16:21

marking place for when I find tape measure.

DownyEmerald · 02/11/2012 20:27

Still haven't done the shopping, but I'd like to say thanks to the bra gurus. I was thinking I'd gone up to a 36A post dd, as I was letting all my 34Bs out to the max clasp, because of back fat.

Realised due to these threads that it is actually breast tissue, not back fat and have measured myself. Very glad I didn't spend money on 36s when I'm a 30 or 32 C.

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/11/2012 20:38

You may be more than a C - If you have been letting your 34Bs out to the loosest because of not-really-back-fat then I suspect when it is all scooped in the 34B cup will actually be a bit small (i.e. in a 34 you would be more like a C) so in a 32 that would be a D/DD, and in a 30 more like a DD/E ish. Did you measure with bra on or doing the leaning forward trick?

DownyEmerald · 02/11/2012 21:49

Well, naked standing up actually Grin. Will try the leaning forward thing. Still getting my head round possibly being a C!

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/11/2012 22:35

Try leaning forward and with your best bra on - naked standing up tends to give a much lower result than the true size :)

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/11/2012 22:36

Sorry that was two seperate measurements - leaning forward or with your best bra on(after scooping everything in to it). Not both simultaneously!

twistedknit · 03/11/2012 11:08

Oh my word. Been wearing a 34-36 B/C for years, (refused to buy bras from M & S as the only size there that seemed to fit was a 38A!) but they've never been comfy. Had a bit of a revelation when I got measured recently and was told that I was a 34 D Smile, the bras I bought there and then fitted but have since bought some (tried on in a rush) and the cups were mahoosive. Was about to give up and just wear stretchy sports type bars forever.

Measured today... OMG 32 under and 38 around! that makes me what - a 32 counts on fingers E!? Mental.

Despite having no time or money or energy I am going bra shopping today. If only to disprove this theory that what I thought was a broad back and abnormally widespread but relatively small norks are actually normal and could even be described as large-ish.

Even a 32 D would make me very happy if it fits - sick of that gaping effect that means people can see my nips if I lean forward in low cut tops. I shall report back...

Naoko · 03/11/2012 11:28

I love these threads :o I've become a bit evangelical about bra sizing since going from a 34DD and feeling crap about how I looked to a 30G earlier this year after a proper fitting. After the ranting I did about it I'm sure DP now knows more about bra fitting than your average M&S fitter... Just need to work up the courage to take my RL friends who are clearly in completely the wrong sizes shopping. I really want to say something but I don't know how.

MushroomSoup · 03/11/2012 11:48

Help please! Just measured my 15 yr old - 28 band, 30 across the boobs. Should I try a 28B? Any suggestions on a good place to shop?

Naoko · 03/11/2012 11:51

Sounds about right :) I'd try Debenhams for that size, they have a really good range of sizes, many very pretty, and they don't cost the earth either, especially if you manage to catch a sale.
