Small boobs...

AIBU to think that I could find a bra that is uplifting, but not wodged full of foam, which will be flattering on those of us who are not overendowed on the boobicular area?
At the moment it either looks like I'm completely flat chested, or have two bean bags shoved down there.

I am struggling to find a bra that's pretty and supportive. Any recommendations?

I am totally fascinated by this... I was measured as a 34B/ 32C by several fitters but found a 32B better, but by this method I measure 28.5" ribcage, 34" leaning over with no bra on so would I be a 28DD or 30D? I can only just do up my 32 B bra!! How can I be a DD when my boobs are like spaniels ears? I feel a trip into town coming on to try on a host of smaller backed bras.

SorrelForbes · 20/11/2012 21:11

Yep, try a 28E/28DD and possibly a 30DD/30D (but I'd put money on the 30 back being too big).

Your 32B feels very tight because the cups are too small and the material from the back is compensating.

When you start trying the smaller backs, make sure you put them on back to fron first to establish the correct back size. It should feel tight but not unbearable. Then put the bra on the correct way round, put the straps up, boobs into the cups, and don't forget to scoop! As SC says up thread, be brave and go big with those cups. If you try say, a 28C it'll feel too tight because the cup is just too small.

You are actually the same measurements as my sister. I recently managed to get her out of her 34B into a 28E.

ShamyFarrahCooper · 20/11/2012 22:29

Ok so final measurements are in. Just under 34 inch back and 39 across bust still. I'm still a bit confunded about the back size to be honest. I dunno if it's because I'm tall or what but given others on here, as a 12 I thought it would drop.

So can I have size suggestions based on above? I think I might need to try a range of sizes maybe but I think my biggest issue is the cup size being wrong.

StatisticallyChallenged · 20/11/2012 22:34

I would still try the 32 based on what you said - I vary a bit but am about 31-31.5 and wear a 30. And your 34 sounds loose.

On a 32, try an F to start with - you may need to go down
On a 34 - around a DDish

ShamyFarrahCooper · 20/11/2012 22:43

fabulous thank you, will try both those sizes and see how I get on. Thanks for all your help, will report back with how it goes!

MsRinky · 20/11/2012 23:23

Oh my. I read this thread last night, measured up and went into John Lewis wearing a 40B. I was trying on a 36DD which was nearly but not quite right when I got a phone call and had to dash off. I'm going back tomorrow to try an E cup. Am really quite speechless.

StatisticallyChallenged · 20/11/2012 23:30

That sort of size change will probably make a massive difference MsRinky! I suspect that will not only feel different but probably look visibly different under clothes - be prepared for "have you lost weight!"

ShamyFarrahCooper · 21/11/2012 09:30

I tried to smoosh everything in to my current bra this morning and I looked like I had about 6 boobs lol. Also noticed that at the back it goes up instead of straight across.

Quodlibet · 21/11/2012 12:26

Oh my god. I have just measured my (7 weeks pg) boobs and I am coming out at 29 under, 37 over. Does this make me 30EE??

Where am I going to get one of them that is not too pricey to grow out of in another few weeks??

SorrelForbes · 21/11/2012 12:28

Hmm, either a 30F or a 28FF/G. However, as you say, you're probably going to need to go bigger fairly soon!. Try BraStop for cheap bras in small backs/large cups.

StatisticallyChallenged · 21/11/2012 12:40

I would try a 30f and I would also order an ff and see how it is. Pregnancy is the one time you should buy your bra so it fits on the tightest hook- to give room for inevitable expansion. I was a 28 pre preg but measured about 29 and when I got fitted at brav at a similar stage to you that was how they fitted me. I wore those bras pretty much until the end.

Quodlibet · 21/11/2012 12:51

Thanks ladies - will try your suggestions. Is there anywhere on the highstreet I can just go and try some on in these monster sizes?

StatisticallyChallenged · 21/11/2012 13:00

Debenhams(although try freya or similar to gauge size as sizing more reliable than debs brand), john Lewis, bravissimo, possibly house of Fraser too.

JKSLtd · 21/11/2012 13:17

I'm feeling fed up now.

I tried several on in Debenhams, though there were hardly any 28s or 30 to try anyway.
I tried a 28DD, the 28 was alright, the DD was too big.
Then tried another one differnt style, more of a 'shaped' cup and the cups could be ok but I wasn't sure.

Tried some 30Bs & Cs (the only 30s I could find), they just looked rubbish.
I could wear them but...it made me have huge 'back fat' bits :(

I'm 8stone8, 5'4". I'm not big by any means. Admittedly I don't exercise much so I may not be toned and could be a little flabby/wobbly. But I shouldn't have ugly looking flabby bits should I? I was scooping too.

I think vest tops under my t-shirts might just be easier. Or even going back to the 'wrong' method and wearing 34As as at least they are in the shops Hmm

Looked in M&S, BHS, Top Shop (i'm way too old for that shop now!), TK Maxx, etc. Was tempted to go into Ann Summers as they say they have bra fitters in there but got scared off by the sex stuff Blush.

At least M&S had 28s on the shelves, but all A or AA cups. (by the correct method an AA cup would be NO difference between measurements right?!).

StatisticallyChallenged · 21/11/2012 13:25

How much too big was the 28dd? The bizarre thing with back sizes is that one back size too big can create bloody awful back fat. The reason (i think) is that it is tight enough to create a bulge, but it's not tight enough for scooping to work- the back isn't firm enough to keep it in the cup so it slides back out.

SorrelForbes · 21/11/2012 13:28

OK, looking back up thread at your measurements and reading your lastest post, if the DD cup was too big then I think a 28D is possibly going to be the size for you.

If the 28 back was alright then you need to stick with that (unless you try a band with incredibly small backs, e.g. some of Debenhams Gorgeous range).

I'm not surprised that the 30B and 30C didn't work. The back fat is caused by a too big band and a too small cup. Because there isn't enough cup to hold the breasts, the excess flesh is pushed around to the back. I get bad back fat in a 34DD and none in a 30G. Scooping in this instance wouldn't work for more than a few seconds as the cups aren't big enough to hold the breast tissue in the correct place. In addition, the too big back would not give enough support to keep everything where it should be.

Top Shop et al tend start their bras at a 32 back which is crazy and very annoying. You need to go and have another bash in Debenhams or try JL, HoF, Bravissimo or a good independant retailer if there's one near you?

Yep, an AA means that the over bust and across measuerments are the same.

JKSLtd · 21/11/2012 14:12

I think I tried this one that seemed ok-ish in a 28D or DD, can't remember now Blush

THe one that was too big was def a 28DD, but not as 'structured' as the one above, more lacy material. Perhaps this one

Is this a good point to admit that I have no idea about the names of bra types? Blush balcony, etc. Not a clue....
I prefer bras that have a 'shape' of their own when you aren't wearing them, rather than scraps of lace that just sort of hang there...

StatisticallyChallenged · 21/11/2012 14:44

Ok, I think you are after either moulded (one piece cups) or padded- which can be several sections but still structured. I think sorrel is right, espec if you got a gorgeous bra on in a 28 you don't need a 30. I think it might be time to look online if you don't have decent shops available locally.

I cant do links just now but things to try in a 28d and dd: brastop curvy Kate- the fleurty, daily boost, smoothie, tempt me, tease me and thrill me all have padding. Figleaves shows the freya Taylor, deco and lauren in a 28d although you may want to shop about for best price. Also the also by panache range, the Jude and various others. They were cheap on amazon the other day

SorrelForbes · 21/11/2012 14:48

The second one you've linked to is the Freya Faye. It's the wrong shape for me and I ended up selling mine after one wear.!

The first one you've linked to (Debenhams Gorgeous) is, what I'd call a balconette shape. This is a shape which often works well for those whose breasts are fuller at the bottom. This particular one also has padding which I also like for defining shape and giving a bit of uplift.

The Freya one is termed a plunge and you can see that the tops of the cups come up higher than the balconette. Plunge bras often work well for those with fullness at the top of their breasts. I tend to fall out of plunges regardless of how big the cup is!

This is the Freya Deco which is a moulded bra, so it'll keep it's shape. This is a very popular bra indeed. I do own one but find that it gapes at the top of the cups due to my lack of fullness in that area.

SorrelForbes · 21/11/2012 14:50

Are you sure you're in Scotland SC? I keep looking over my shoulder Grin.

You're so much better than me at bra recommendations. I'm totally stuck in my own little balconette groove!

SorrelForbes · 21/11/2012 14:56

There is 20% off at Figleaves until Mon 26th Nov.
Code - TWENTY

StatisticallyChallenged · 21/11/2012 15:08

Unfortunately once you go over the g cup choice becomes much smaller which means you spend far too much time on lingerie websites! And damn you putting a figleaves code up...i need new black bras!

(but we do post minutes apart far too often!)

ShamyFarrahCooper · 21/11/2012 15:18

So I tried a 34DD on at lunchtime. Unfortunately all I could find was ONE bra in that size and absolutely nothing in a 32 that went past a B! Crazy stuff.

The DD felt pretty good but I still want to try out the 32F just in case the back size isn't quite right. The DD was much tighter than I have just now and the band seemed to sit well but I did have a bit of bulge.
I'm going to order some tonight and have a see.

Are next bras any good/recommended? I can get to one of those easily (I work out of town so no real selection.

MrsDeterminedandSpecialMum · 21/11/2012 20:12

Hey Ladies,

I have small boobs. With a tape measure under the bust I measure 28. over the full part of the breast am between 31 & 32.

So what bra size is that? it baffles me a bit.

thanks Smile

Naoko · 21/11/2012 20:14

That's a starting point of 28C or D, I'd say :)
