Small boobs...

AIBU to think that I could find a bra that is uplifting, but not wodged full of foam, which will be flattering on those of us who are not overendowed on the boobicular area?
At the moment it either looks like I'm completely flat chested, or have two bean bags shoved down there.

I am struggling to find a bra that's pretty and supportive. Any recommendations?

Thank you! Will try those out

TruthSweet · 19/11/2012 22:03

This way of measuring is even weirder than M&S' Shock

Still they do nursing bras in a 26 band Grin

StatisticallyChallenged · 19/11/2012 22:08

WTF are they measuring that for?!

Although personally I am more amused by this.

ShamyFarrahCooper · 19/11/2012 22:16

Hmm I measured BUT I had to use string, then use a tiny ruler in cm then convert to inches Blush

Based on that scientific method I got 34.8 inch back and 41 inch across bust. That sounds mental to me lol and I can't even work that one out I'm a size 12 and a nearly 35 inch back (based on comments here) is a bit surprising if I'm honest.

I think I may need to rethink my method Grin . Anyway, out of curiosity, what would that be?

StatisticallyChallenged · 19/11/2012 22:20

Loving your method!

Based on those measurements I would say around a 34F - but a 34 is a relatively large back on a 12. Not impossible by any stretch but given your method I would suggests double checking.

ShamyFarrahCooper · 19/11/2012 22:23

An F? Bloody hell. I did the no bra leaning forward method but yeah I think I'll buy an actual tape measure before I go bra shopping :D

I currently wear a 34C. The reason I'm surprised at the back method is I can fit my whole hand through the back, but also I can see underwire marks on the side, which is actually boob.
I swear I have learned SO MUCH from you guys lol.

StatisticallyChallenged · 19/11/2012 22:38

In that case definitely go down down down in the back.

Don't be scared to go shopping without measuring if you don't have a tape. Best bet - work out your back size first. You can do this by taking in a 28, 30, 32, 34 and trying them on back to front. The only object here is to work out which back size fits you - and doing it back to front means you are basically taking the cups completely out of the equation. The back should be tight- not oh my god I can't breathe, but tight.

Once you have that bit sorted it's time for the cups. Now, this is where you might feel like you have got the back wrong - as if the cup is far too small you might struggle with the back. So be bold and start with quite a big cup size. And when you put the bra on, scoop like crazy to get every part of your breast tissue inside that wire.

A very very rough guess to start with (ignoring your measurements since you think they are off)- you are wearing a 34c which is designed for someone who measures 37 overbust. It's too small (wires on boob) by a good cup size or two - so you are probably more like at least 39 inches. On a 30 back that would equate to around a G cup, and around an F on a 32 back.

If your top measurement is actually correct - then that would be a 30H, a 32G or a 34F.

ShamyFarrahCooper · 20/11/2012 08:38

Those are some scary sounding sizes LOL. It's amazing though, because in my mind (and I imagine a few) those are huge whereas I don't think mine are.
Just shows what bad fitting and media misrepresentation does. I'm heading out at lunch to buy a measure then will get some shopping done. Quite excited I must say!

SorrelForbes · 20/11/2012 09:25

Thanks for the link SC. My dilemma over DH's Christmas present is now solved. Grin

BraveLilBear · 20/11/2012 11:11

I told my OH last night about this. He didn't quite get it 'but your boobs aren't any bigger, they're just a different size...' Then I pointed out that I'd be able to get nicer underwear. He said - and I kid you not - 'who for, work?'

Men! I eventually explained that the nice undies would be for home. And I'd get some regular, yet properly fitting ones, for everywhere else Grin

JKSLtd · 20/11/2012 11:59

I told dh this morning, his face had that sort of blank look, I know my wife is talking to me but I have no idea what about!Grin

ShamyFarrahCooper · 20/11/2012 12:45

Ok so I have remeasured with an actual measuring tape Grin

I'm still getting the 34.5 back which I still think is odd but hey ho. I got 39 across.

ShamyFarrahCooper · 20/11/2012 12:46

I'm impressed that you actually figured the 39 across the bust earlier LOL.

SorrelForbes · 20/11/2012 13:26

Shamy Did you make sure the tape was horizontal and pulled quite tight (tighter than you're used to a bra feeling)? SC is a bra/maths whizz!

StatisticallyChallenged · 20/11/2012 13:33

That was a good guess! From what you have said your 34 is way too big in the back but it could be an odd sized one. Or the tape isn't tight enough underneath.

ShamyFarrahCooper · 20/11/2012 13:44

Well I did do it in the toilets at work Blush LOL. I was kinda desperate to know haha.
I'll try once more tonight. It felt tight at 34.5 but I suppose the tape could have been a bit wonky.
I'm fairly sure the across the bust measurement is ok. It's down from last night but not so dramatically.

Is that an F if my calcs are correct?

hawthers · 20/11/2012 13:55

Right so my current bra is 34a but I measure 30 and 34/35 so according to the experts on here I should be a 30 d or dd? But been to bravissimo this morning and their estimate is 32c or d apparently because my boobs aren't very heavy (thanks to my two sons Blush so I don't need a tighter band which would give more support. Does this sound right?

I'm going to have a proper trip next week sans children to do some trying on of lots of different sizes.

cjbk1 · 20/11/2012 14:01

this thread is really giving me hope; currently BF'ing so have boobs but btwn pg's could get no cupsize like I was literally flat chested which I wasn't quite Blush and I was too embarrassed to get measured as I didn't want them to say AA cup mentally scarred by first bra fitting as a pre-teen "there's hardly anything there" like a 12yo but I'll mark my place and maybe I can get a cupsize when iv stopped BF'ing.thanks all Wink

ThoughtBen10WasBadPokemonOMG · 20/11/2012 14:05

Hawthers I measure the same as you. I have moved from a 36a to a 32 c then a 32d but I now appear double boobed :D Clearly something isn/t right! I think that I should be a 30DD :O How can this be!

StatisticallyChallenged · 20/11/2012 14:18

On those measurements alone a 30dd is about right but I am inclined to trust bravissimo- everyone is different and they will be able to see if it he giving you the support you need. PLus it varies so the bra you were trying might fit a little tighter.

Thought if a 32d is double boobed then you need go up in the cup and a 30dd will be basically the same as the 32d. Try a 30e.

ThoughtBen10WasBadPokemonOMG · 20/11/2012 15:55

30e!

Okeydoke. Will bow to the wisdom of mn and try one if possible in Debenhams later on in the week. Thank you

AgathaF · 20/11/2012 16:16

I bet Debenhams, JL etc are wondering about the sudden influx of women requiring their smallest backsizes Grin

BraveLilBear · 20/11/2012 16:39

AgathaF I'm deadly serious - if we can raise awareness, we will reach tipping point. Then M&S etc will have to listen to us about the measuring myth and they will HAVE to start stocking smaller back sizes... All we need is momentum.

I can't wait to tell my sisters and mum - my small boobed friends, and all others, too!

HauntedLittleLunatic · 20/11/2012 17:41

I nominate sorrel to go to MNHQ to petition them to start a campaign...

SorrelForbes · 20/11/2012 18:37

What? Who? Me?

I've never conversed with MNHQ before.

I nominate StatisticallyChallenged and HazelNutt Wink
