What dress length?

Hi, I am wondering what length dress is acceptable for a 37 year old! I am going to a evening wedding reception soon, and instead of boring trousers would like to wear a dress.

I bought a lovely skater dress from River Island the other day, but now Im thinking that I am to old for it!

The hem line is just above my knee, what do you think?

I don't think 37 is too old for a shorter dress (I'm 38) at all. In fact, depending upon how you choose to style it and accessorize, you could look a lot more elegant than if you wore it at 27, if you see what I mean. And it primarily depends upon your legs, shape and personal style anyway, for no two 37 year olds are the same.

Not a fan of the skater style personally because they poof out a bit too much from the waist, and being high waisted they make me look terrible, and I have always thought the way they are cut isn't so much youthful as childlike - the current skater dress hemlines could look a lot more elegant and reminiscent of the 50's glamour if they simply dropped a few inches below mid thigh - and that applies to wearers of any age.

But maybe go for elegant flats, and more conservative accessories to it (not towering platform pumps!, and maybe a smart little cropped jacket...I love all of the short knitted ones at zara right now).

As for the hemline in general, just above the knee, if this is the most flattering part of the leg for you, sounds good for any age group, so go for it!

What toastedteacakes said.

But, even though it's fine length wise don't wear if you don't feel right.

I agree about the high waist and slightly too short cut of the skater dresses ATM, but if your short they can fall just as teacakes would like. They do on me anyway, well, some of them.

this fab printed dress has a slightly more elegant cut than the typical skater dress, without being too retro.
