'Grecian' style evening dress for a really posh do - not black - any ideas?

I need anew dress for another of DHs 'do's'. We're generally the youngest there by 10 years or so (and we're not young!). The older women we all be in ballgowny type things, which I WILL NOT entertain.

I have the idea of something Grecian-y. Minimal, drapey, relatively bling-free...

Anyone seen such a thing?

Pleeeeeeeaaase?

I thank you in advance...

P.s I'm 5ft2", size 10, slim but curvy, if that helps. Of course it may lead you all to tell me that I've lost my mind even considering the above and it will look TERRIBLE...

This?

MrsLettuce · 10/05/2012 16:30

this quite like BoF's one

still love the blue though

MrsLettuce · 10/05/2012 16:31

hehe wrong thread!

MrsLettuce · 10/05/2012 16:34

this is the one a bit like BoF's

MarianForrester · 10/05/2012 16:41

Frasers usually has a wide selection of evening dresses online and instore; I usually try there or tk maxx.

MrsLettuce · 10/05/2012 18:34

This dress with this belt and these sandals would come up delightfully grecian as a group.

Doesn't matter that the dress is shoe priced and the shoes dress priced. does it?

designerbaby · 11/05/2012 10:41

Gosh - SO many ideas here - you guys are really great.

Mrs L - the infinity dress is bloody genius! I think the additional cost is pretty justified as its so versatile. I love the selection of colours... The lead time is a killer though - 10 weeks?! I mean, seriously? That said, the BHS one looks practically the same, for a fraction of the cost and its available NOW... So that's definitely a go-er. The colour selection isn;t quite as good, but I quite like the fuscia or the jade...

Cremeeggsrock - the seafoam Monsoon one - in a way it looks the most like the Halston Heritage one that Mrs Lettuce linked to (and has subsequently ruined all other dresses for me... Angry). But they've managed to 'prom' it up rather (and spoiled it a bit) with the rather too prim panel in the front (and back). That said, I'm quite a dab hand with a needle, so I'll have a look at it, and see if I can remove/alter the panel to Halston it back up and make it a bit more slutty plungey... ??

(Moonlight - I think your suggestion sounds great, but I'm a bit strapped for time and energy to work it out... And the thought of DH and his big fat clumsy fingers coming at my person with pins of any kind... Shock)

There's a few in the Phase Eight selection which might work, actually. And we've got one close by, so I think a visit there try ? I've never been in a Phase Eight before, and to be honest had forgotten they existed!

I'm still liking this clothing/maxi dresses/ ted baker but forget what your verdict was! Also their bloody site is broken and it won't tell me where to find a Ted Baker store... I have an inkling there's on on the Kings Road... Anyone know?

Also seeing several online at House if Fraser like this biba which is over budget and this biba2. Plus the Kaliko one that someone linked to is there too. And ooh.. this Also your Grecian one MisMacross - but I think DH would have a fit when the credit card statement came through...

So, Phase Eight, HOF, Ted Baker, Monsoon, BHS - does this seem like a plan?

You're all brilliant by the way. Far more clued up than I am. I used to know about this kind of stuff. And then I had kids...

Oh, I love the colour of this one:
green

This one - can you do Grecian and blingy at the same time?
sparkly

more bling

gold

But I'm getting a bit lost...

Can I be cheeky and ask for your top three of the ones suggested so far? Blush

I love the pale green one actually, tho love lots of these dresses! I think the colour makes it really unusual ( in a good way Grin)

Bit of bling by way of accessories, great.

MadameChinLegs · 11/05/2012 13:25

What about this very pale pink Ghost dress?

noddyholder · 11/05/2012 18:17

great for a more budget option Love the ghost one

MrsLettuce · 11/05/2012 20:57

STOP PRESS

MrsLettuce · 11/05/2012 20:59

also pale blue and paly greeny yellow

MrsLettuce · 11/05/2012 21:00

OMG

MrsLettuce · 11/05/2012 21:02

and another shocking?

MoonlightandRoses · 11/05/2012 21:05

Like the Mango option in pink, and the Ghost, but Ghost is not usually very friendly to the short-arsed among us - they tend to design for 5'7" + minimal hip people.

The Coast one is lovely, but you could make it yourself for a lot less.

I came across this in last season's All Saints. Definitely Grecian, so might be worth scouting Amazon/eBay to see if there's one floating around in a 10?

MrsLettuce · 11/05/2012 21:13

last one

wish I'd found this site at the beginning

gnocci · 11/05/2012 21:17

I wore the top one to a very posh black tie do last year. The one below is lovely too but all last season so not sure you can get hold of them now. Might give you some ideas though :)

drywhiteplease · 11/05/2012 21:48

this?

drywhiteplease · 11/05/2012 21:51

or this?
I know both are size 8 but, like you, I'm size 10 5.3, and have bought dresses by theses designers from t k Maxx...they are stretchy and fit me ok in 8, might be worth a try for the price.

drywhiteplease · 11/05/2012 21:54

Someone linked this one a few weeks ago
